Following yesterday’s reports of a brawl involving Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty and an Italian photographer in Rome, a spokesperson for Doherty has released a statement, which denies that he started the fight.
A Rome newspaper had reported that Pete started a fight with the paparazzi photographer Andrea Venturini outside his hotel, after his band’s gig at the Piper Club in the city. The photographer is reported to have said, “He came at me like a madman. There was no reason. I had to go to hospital.”
But today’s statement on behalf of Doherty announces, “Pete totally denies that he instigated a fight with a photographer. Reports that that the photographer might make an official complaint will certainly interest Pete’s lawyers.”
The spokesperson also said that he has witnesses who saw Pete getting struck on the head with a camera.
