  • I love ELO and Jeff Lynne. The songs are beyond quilty pleasure. To me it's soul food.
Only Jeff has been able to help me in dark times and I'm glad I found out about ELO in 1998 when Light Years came out. I live now thanks to lovely Jeff Lynne. Thank you for my new life. I LOVE YOU!!!

  • The guy is an absolute genius...you only have to listen to any one of his albums to hear how versatile the man is. Icon? Legend is more fitting, just ask his friends....
I've loved his music for almost 30 years now, everything he touches has a special feel to it...almost as if there is a secret ingredient that only the colonel knows about.
Keep making music Jeff, there's a lot of us left who love what you do

  • Jeff lynne is the last artist, from this part of the world,to be deservedly awarded the title of genius.Originallity(not stealing choruses and verses from other peoples tunes)is what
makes his music unique and to think he composed most of this whilst in his twenties.
The guy will be loved throughout the world for many years to come.Jeff if you are listening, will you please bring out a documentry style DVD about the history of you and your music.CHEERS

  • I first heard Mr Blue Sky on totps in 1978 I was 14 at the time and I've been hooked ever since. Jeff Lynne has been my inspiration ever since. A true musical genius. All the ELO albumbs are so unique and original. The pop press in the UK were proberbly jealous that ELO made it big in the US whilst they were still asleep. After all these years your music has gone from strength to strength and will live on for generations to come. Only a handful of artists can ever claim that. Thank you Jeff for all the years of musical pleasure you have given me and everyone else who appreciates true talent.

  • I've been a loyal Jeff Lynne fan since New World Record. I received an 8-track player in 1977, and I received this treasure. I was hooked! I had to have Ole ELO, Face the Music, and my favorite one Eldorado. I now have my ELO on CD's. My husband recently passed away, and while shopping at my favorite music store, I bought their Wembley concert on DVD. It was just the medicine I needed to help me through my "bad days." I watch it every night before I go to sleep, and it really lifts my spirits. I wish I could convey to Jeff Lynne personally how much of an impact his music has had on my life. My friends will still ask me from time to time if I still listen to ELO, and I tell them not only do I listen to them, I see them every night!

    God Bless you Jeff Lynne

  • Jeff Lynne is a genius! Jeff and ELO have a catalog of great tunes. It's a shame ELO fell apart in 1986. If they were still a band they could have had great songs to this day. Jeff if you are reading this your music is timless. Rock on Jef!

  • Jeff,
What more can anyone say? Ditto on everything mentioned here. I've been a loyal fan of your music for over 30 years! Now my daughter and nieces have discovered ELO and they love it too. (Big smile from me). I still hope to meet you one day to thank you for all you've done for me. If I can ever return the favor - I'm there. I also would like to take you out to dinner so if you'd ever consider joining some fans for some wining (?), dining and good conversation I hope you will include me. And I wish you a Happy Belated Birthday too! luv, - Lisa

  • To me, a guilty pleasure is something of inferior quality, or of a kitchy, campy or cheesy nature, that you might know is junkfood, or be embarrassed for your friends to see you enjoying, but is none-the-less entertaining and fun (like doing a fat girl).

Jeff Lynne and ELO certainly don't fit into this category. The music is complex and very original for its time, the songs and Lynne's production are very high quality (Lynne's talent as a producer is evidenced by the fact the Beatles asked Lynne to produce the "new" Beatles songs for Anthology, as well as George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and others).

To put ELO in the same category as ABBA or disco or Madonna or some other sub-par performer or untalented old hack who is fun and enjoyable, but less than high quality, is just wrong. ELO's music was (and Jeff Lynne still is), very intelligently written by an innovative composer, unique in its sound, ground breaking in electronic and production techniques, and of the very highest caliber, talent-wise.

That would be like calling Sinatra, Count Basie or Weather Report a "guilty pleasure". Nothing to be guilty about with ELO.

  • There is nothing to be guilty about when listening to Jeff/ELO. Only if you are fashion led.

The man has written some of the most beautiful songs in the history of music. He is a true songwriting/producing genius and has the golden touch. His work with his former heroes (members of the Beatles) show's how highly he's rated by people in the know.

I'm in my early 30's and first heard ELO as a very young kid in the late 70's (Mr Blue Sky)... 'Out Of The Blue' and 'Discovery' became curious attractions in my dads record collection. My dad gave me 'all over the world' 7" sometime in 80/81 I still wasn't even ten yet and this guys music just got to me. In the early 90's as an adult I tracked down nearly every ELO album/Jeff album he'd made (a lot) and while the music was more patchy early on by 'Face the Music' he'd really hit his stride as a maker of perfect albums full of enchanting and addictive songs. Loved all the albums fully from that, through 'new world record','out of the blue' 'discovery' and 'time'. Later stuff is still good, but those albums really showcase his talent.

He's a step above artist like ABBA and the BEE GEES (Who I do like), because of his personal solo talent as an all rounder. Barry Gibb is close and as a songwriter he should also be mentioned as a 'guilty genius' but overall, the arguable less famous Jeff Lynne takes the prize as the most consistent, talented and humble guy to have written as many brilliant songs.

Met Bev Bevan recently, nice guy, but you need to come back, get together and get the Brum sound going again with Richard T. It is a current vibe here, what about doing Glastonbury or V? We need your input mate!! from a true fan (Alderley Boy School, Shard End)! Good LUck, lvoe the Zoom album, but need more from you. Even contacted the Santa Barbara Independent News to try and get in touch. Wishing you the very best. Gaz B

  • Well!! I have been a fan of JLs music since about 72. evenplaying 2 of his songs in my own 1st band in the 80s. I know it is regarded as cheesey and not cool to like ELO..but I regard JL as one of the best, and that list includes not just the B Boys, Beatlesetc but also RHead, Sex Pistols Magazine, Smiths, Blur Oasis etc. Come on J...At least play Jools if not a Sat/Sun nite at Glastonbury and make pals with Bev for the occassion.
Should you do this..I want a free ticket.
    All the brest.
Iain. P.S Istill have the signed poster from 1980 sent back to me via your Swiss neighbour. I did try to sell it but was told by the local autograph shop that I could only expect £10!!..

  • it's great reading how people admire ELO after all these years having the piss taking out of me for liking them.i also agree with alot of the responses apart from the abuse that ABBA are getting. thats just plain wrong. i would put them up there with The Beatles. they were the real deal!!! At the age of 29 i have the balla to admit to my heavy metal mates that ABBA are genius! Jeff Lynne would totally agree,i would put money on it! as for The Bee Gees, they have had there moments too..but i'll leave that to a Bee Gees fan to defend them!
