Maybe they should concentrate more on making it through puperty in one piece rather than on what Take That are doing (which is selling out every date of their tour after a decade of being away). Hey, I love the Monkees proper like - heck, we even live in the same village up here in Sheff - but I thought as much as it's rock n roll an that, slagging them off seemed a bit uncalled for.
Alex and 't lads are reight grand an all, but Tek That (as we say in High Green) are a bit like - well not in the frame for a good slaggin off. They are a bit sort of - like Mommies Boys if you get my point and this isn't Oasis Vs. Robbie terratory. I like the Arctic Mokeys music but....they have only been around for 5 mins and they need to come back out of their own arses and respect people who have been in the business a lot longer than them. I'd like to see them go away for 10 years and come back and have a huge sellout arena and stadium tour like TT have done,

Where to start!? I think the comment by The Arctic Monkeys was totally uncalled for, I mean it criticism is welcome if its constructive - This was not - Even if TT aren't your cup of tea, music wise, you have to show them respect, they've earned it!
There aren't many true pop bands who could come back 10 years on and sell 550,000 concert tickets in a matter of hours!
Mr Arctic Monkey was trying to be the big man but I think you can see from the responses posted here, already, that he's vastly underestimated the mighty mighty Take That and their fiercely loyal fan base!

Just plain inappropriate boys. Like your music as I do Oasis, but not so sure about the adolescent posturing. Is it necessary? A cheap and misaimed publicity stunt that completely misreads our re-evaluation of Take That's work. Didn't really appreciate how good TT were when they were first around but having them back is like a breath of fresh air. Everything feels so cynical nowadays. And though I was too cool to say it ten or so years ago........Gary Barlow really is a genius!

I remember them making arses of themselves after winning the Mercury Prize too, slagging off one of the journalists for the way he looked. They may have a few good tunes and the world's attention at the moment but they have so much to learn - RESPECT, TACT and some COMMON SENSE. Picking on Take That is such a cheap shot. Take That's achievements far outweigh anything Arctic Monkeys can even dream of.

I do love the arctic monkeys but i love Take That WAAAAYYY more.
There was no point in saying that seems as Take That are a totally different genre to the monkeys but everybody no's that Take That are the greatest band around and are (and always will) rule music scene for many more reasons than 'good tunes innit' (a quote from alex turner at the mercury prize awards).
Taje That are amazing and its true, when the arctic monkeys split, no-one will be that bothered and they certainly wont need a samaritain helpine set up to console distriut fans!

I don't think that trying to show the world that you are all somewhat endowed by acting like *%£*&^%* on the stage of an award ceremony is probably not the best idea.
There is a time to shut up and a time speak. Have some respect for the people that do like Take That and stop being brainless bullies.
Here's an idea...come to a Take That thing and try some of that *&%$. I can tell you...TT won't stick up for themselves but I will be the first to up to see just how much of men you actually are. And followed by an army of fans.
What you fail to remember is that they wouldn't be as successful as they are now without all of us....so if they were "boll*&%$" back in the day then how come they are back with a vengence? Sing instead of practice academia....it's all explained.
All you have done is allienate yourselves from a genre of fans (look it up if you are unsure)....and I am really looking forward to the time I get to meet you...then you'll see unnecessary bullying.

Well Take That where around along time before the Arctics i dont even know what songs they sing? Jealousy is such a sad thing perhaps the Arctics should start on oasis as oasis would get on like a house on fire with the Arctics as they are both just a cockey as one another and immature and need to learn to grow up. I totally agree with them having a lot to answer for (i.e. Robbie, Westlife, shite groups like Allsaints attempting to get back together etc) but they were THE ORIGINAL AND THE BEST in the 90's and as you can see, their fans, including myself, are truly loyal. There was no need for any twatish comments from 20 year old little urks who have only been around a very short time.
Take That are fantastic at what they do and should not be insulted just for winning an award. What were they meant to do, turn it down?! They know where they come from even after all this success. A shame the Arctic Gibbons have forgotten their courtesy and manners towards other people.

Surely we can understand difference in genres here? Take That are classic pop and VERY successful at it - they are not trying to be obscure and Indie. Personally I think they have released classic pop albums, but that is just my opinion. Gary is a talented song writer for the genre he is aiming at. In terms of album sales / tour sales etc Take That have beaten the Monkeys hands down - I don't think anyone can argue with that. I predict that Alex will make some sort of apology pretty soon. My guess is that if he met them he'd apologise & grovel (probably has done already) as they are seen as genuinely nice guys by everyone who meets them. That is unless his jealousy gets in the way...

Hahaha, I'm so proud of my fellow Take That fans. Like I said before...they might take the high road but we won't. We aren't going to let some spotty little boy - high on magic markers get away with things like this.
They might have gotten an excellent response from us before but now they'll get nothing but grief. I can only hope that they do a public appearance somewhere soon and see just how much of a mistake it is to bully the loveliest people around.

The fact is that the Idols Award is meant for pop acts and as the only pop act at the awards in a successful group that has proved itself in Europe, Asia and Oceania. Back For Good has been covered 89 times and Nobody can really remember the original versions of Cold It Be Magic or Relight My Fire. The only song in the pop charts as Pray these last three years with as much edge are Hey Yeah by Outcast and Smiley Faces by Gnarls Barkley. Arctic Monkeys are good musicians but have to prove themseves as performers. No one can deny that Take That look good on the dancefloor.

The monkeys dont want to come back in 10 years time to do a reunion tour. theyre here now to do what they love and play music. JUst turns out there dam good at it. The little brat who made the comment doesn't have the talents of gary barlow, never will, and wouldn't know what to do with it if he did! Take That are "Back For Good", ladies (& Thatter gents) we just need to "Have A Little Patience" and the Arctic Monkeys will disappear back under the rock they came out from.
Arctic's, you looked good on the dance floor but we are " Satisfied" that there is "Nobody Else" out there like our boys. So while you are "Holding Back The Tears" as you wave your career goodbye we are "Sure" you will "Hate It" every time you remember that "You Are The One" who dug your own grave and "It Only Takes A Minute" for a legion of fans turn their backs on you. In response to WickeduncleAndre: All i will say is that TT are not about being part of the "pretentious music scene" or producing an iconic album - they brought Pop back to the charts in the 90s and thank god that they are about to do it again!! You've got to admit that most of the chart hits have been pretty dire recently. Another slump in the music scene and TT have come to the rescue once again. I for one can't wait to hear the new album....

Water off a ducks back!! i get a hint of the Green Eyed Monster in there... Whatever Monkey Boys.....TAKE THAT were never bollocks, they were and always will be at the top of their game, anyone that has seen a TT live show knows that there are no shows that even come close...
They should spend their time squeezing their zits and combing their hair instead of slating other bands, it would be time better spent in my opinion.

They were caught up in the hype of the Q Awards, people are almost expected to say something controversial. they were just playing up to the crowd, like little kids do when they want attention
lets see them go away for 10 years, come back and sell out a tour as quick as TT did, it would never happen, the reason people love TT is becasue they are nice guys and dont waste their time bad mouthing other artists.
robbie was in TT for 5 years before he left, the bass player for the Monkey Boys left after about a year, whats that say about them..

I range from day to day listening to a mix of Spineshank, AFI, System of a Down, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers, Oasis, Culture Club, Brand New Heavies, The Hives, Abba, Maxwell, Lennon, Dylan, Bananarama, Jools Holland, Vivaldi, Mario Lanza and hell, even Steps if I'm drunk enough.

Someone says on there that Take That play their own instruments!! Only Barlow was ever any good at that - the rest are just up jumped backing dancers. The point is that Arctic Monkeys felt they needed to bring it to everyone's attention that they don't like them.
I'm sorry but I don't remember anybody asking them!!!
People's taste in music can be very diverse (as per the great comments made by "Mrs Neutral") and you will find that some people USED TO like both groups. Arctic Monkeys have alienated these fans and will lose out because of it. They should kno better than to risk losing some of their following in the fickle world of the music business.

Pop is back along with Take That and I think they will be round for a long time yet. People are gonna remember Take That long, long after The Arctic Monkeys are long forgotten!
As for "has beens", have you seen anyone else their age look that hot? I can't think of anyone else out there that looks as good as the 4 of them do! Has beens don't sell out hundreds of thousands of concert tickets in 30 minutes after 10 years without even releasing another single!

For your information I was as much of a TT fan as anyone else - BACK IN THE DAY - but the truth is they split up, they got old, they ran out of money, and decided to do a tour. It's not my fault all you people want to waste your money going to see the exact same gig as you all saw however many times you went to see them last time round, let me think, TEN YEARS AGO!!!

FAT? OLD?! I would say this is getting personal but nobody who knew anything about Take That would call them fat or old! They are still brilliant dancers (I'm not suggesting the Arctic Monkeys should start break dancing but it would be funny to see!), singers and song writers so why shouldn't they come back for more. They're not harming anyone, not going around slagging off other bands just because they are different.
As for the broke comment... are you having a laugh?! They made shit loads and unlike the Arctic Monkeys didn't need to spend it all on clearasil and chavy clothes.

If you would like to take a look back at my comment, at no point did I say that Barlow didn't have any Ivor Novellos, I said that you lot would be wanting the Bedingfields to have Ivor Novellos, as their music is almost as pap as TT's was, is and always will be. He can think what he wants of course, everyone has that right, just don't make comments about things that don't concern you. Unless of course Take That's success is a concern for him?
We don't go on TV and slag off people for being different, doing their own thing and being good at it. What gives him that right just because he's been in a band for 2 minutes? They're nothing special, so many bands around like them at the moment. At least the others are getting on with their own music instead of wasting their time talking about 4 "old fat men"

I think perhaps my version of fan and your version of fan are slightly different as well Josie Wosie - you obviously DIG those guys in the BIGGEST way! I enjoyed their tunes, and put up with having to walk through my sister's room everyday which was literally plastered in TT posters! Perhaps my lack of love for them has stemmed from having them forced down my eartubes for the duration of their first attempt at world domination!!!

Why do they have to make such comments about Take That anyway? Take That came back because there was a demand for them, they haven't done anything to Arctic Monkeys.
I personally am very glad they're back again. Missed them so much. They never came to Scandinavia often.

I think most of us were being rather ironic in asking who the Arctic Monkeys are. We have all heard of them however the point being made was more "what have they ever done of any significance?"
Now lets not start this being a debate over who likes "real" music and who likes "proper" music. Just becuase bands or singers do not play instruments or write their own songs does not mean they are fakes.
Also just because someone likes a "pop" band does not mean they cannot apprecaite good music. Music is objective and those who diss bands because of their genre are uneducated in music.
I like the Arctic Monkeys songs and Oasis and the Sugababes but if they cannot behave like civilsed adults then I wont give them the time of day.

Hey Katie,
I ran away last night to listen to a back catalogue of Take That, whilst slapping myself with a large Mark Owen shaped fish and saying "BAD!" for my travesty against British pop music.
I don't doubt that The That brought a huuuge amount of pleasure to people all over the world for many years, and that Gary Barlow can write a good pop tune. ( I went home last night with I Found Heaven in my head and I think it was retribution for my evil comments against TT yesterday )
I know that music is different genres, I simply would prefer to listen to a band of musicians making beautiful music together, rather than a band of men with nice voices that can whack out a good portion of pop pap.
And anyway, what rock band have you ever known that DOESN'T have a front man with lashings of ego and attitude - would the Rolling Stones have survived this long without the brashness of Mick Jagger? Methinks not.
And for the record, you could not accuse me of being uneducated in music - I'll give you a pub-quiz-off any day m'lady!!
I now understand that TT fans are in a world of their own, where double standards are rife, and musicality is barren. You are all SLAGGING Alex Turner for thinking TT are crap, and calling him immature etc, yet that's EXACTLY what you've all been doing on this forum.

I appreciate your comments and understand them all fully. I wasn't trying to get into an argument with you at all. You dislike TT and think they are, at best, shite. Fair enough, I'm sure there's plenty of bands you hold in high esteem that I despise as well. That's what makes us interesting.
The point I was trying to make to you deer was that the REASONS behind you dislking them were bollocks. Just because someone does not play an instrument or form part of a "proper" band does not mean they are untalented. A voice is an instrument just as much as a guitar, a piano or a bass.
If you hate TT's voices that's cool, just as cool as it is to say you hate the Arctic Monkeys guitars, it's personal choice and preference.
Get over yourself love, just because you like "real" music doesn't make you special.
Oh and as for "I'll give you a pub-quiz-off any day m'lady!!" That's not musical education, that's general knowledge.........they're different things

I love both! My cd collection ranges from Take That to Faithless, Andrew Lloyd Webber to Bon Jovi, Tori Amos to Queen, Lionel Richie to Red Hot Chilli Peppers! Odd but I like it!
Not appreciating the Monkeys though. Or really any of the bands around like them at the moment. Maybe i'm stuck in the past but why not when it's better!
Seems as though current bands have become the new version of a manufactured band. The same old shit! Nobody really stands out at the moment.
At least Take That can still manage to be a breath of fresh air even the secound time around. x

Us TT fans really are quite bonkers but in a fantastic way!!
I like to keep things real, and although i think Alex Turner was a total prat for saying that bulls**t about TT, in the grand scheme of things it doesnt matter what he says, TT will always have an army of fans buying their music and tour tickets. I'm sure what he's said won't influence anybody. No oine that matters anyway
But it has successfully given them and Q a load of publicity..
BTW... how sexy are the lads in this edition of Q Mag!! OMG anyone on here that has said they are fat old men, buy Q magazine (or attitude) and then try telling us they are fat!! (I think not)

clementine was on his first album Green Man, and as much as i think his solo stuff is fab, it wasnt my favourite album, but the last 2 are just fantastic, i think you'd really like it, get yourself a copy of those albums and give them a chance, definately worth it

I liked the arctic monkeys before they got signed. they were a bit different, but im sorry but the whole "indie uprisal" has come and reached its peak in my opinion.
Whereas take that, never lost their peak. The arctic monkeys may have been in demand, but its not constant,like demand for take that is and always will be.
Take that have talent, immense talent, Gary Barlow is amazing, and has writen some of the greatest songs I have heard in my life, and the other boys are talented too,
Everyone just assumes they sing and dance, but on the tour Howard was playing the piano, mark and Jason their guitars, On the nobody else tour howard played the drums. They arent just pretty faces.
The thing that makes them stand out from the crowd in my opinion though, is the fact that the boys have MANNERS, You would never hear them slagging off a band unprevoked.
I think these little boys from the arctic monkeys need to learn some f**king respect.

Take That were good at what they did and were of their time, they paved the way for a lot of similar acts, and were the first super-slick pop group this country produced and their success reflects their hard work. Admittedly their tunes are sometimes too saccharine for words, but for that time and for a particular demographic, they were perfect, so well done to them. They knew their audience, and that's what made them so good. The Arctics will do very well, and good luck to them, but TT were only bollocks to the Arctics, because they were six at the time and the Arctics are boys, for crying out loud - they're not going to like slushy love songs...

PammyGee, when TT split up (again) , we can still enjoy Mark's brilliant records.
I love the fact that TT are back together again (allthough I was never a die-hard fan) but I allready miss Mark's solo work!
If you haven't had a chance to listen to his albums, I suggest you go out and get copies.
I'm sure you will be happily suprised.
I ordered them (can't get them in Holland) just because it was Mark. Didn't expect them to be any good, but they absolutely blew me away.
Mark is the most underrated artist! He's a genius. Great songs, great voice!

I am sick of people saying Take That fans need to get into new music instead of liking a band that were around 10 years ago. They're also around now and we're happy for that. With a new tour, new single and new album.
Many bands have been around for decades but their fans don't get slated for still supporting them!
This "new" music from all these little indie bands is so overrated.
The Arctic Monkeys should realise it's not the best idea to alienate hundreds and thousands of fans all over europe, a lot of whom probably liked them before that comment.
I don't think Europe has even heard of them apart from what they've said on here? So they don't really have much hope over there do they.

It does bug me when people assume that becasue we love TT that we are totaly against any other genre of music, i like lots of different stuff that is as far away from TT as you can get,
the thing is i'm open minded enough to like lots of different kinds of music and dont automatically write off a band becasue they happen to fall into the Boyband (sorry Man Band) category!!
I do quite like A.M's tracks, i had heard them ages before they broke becasue they are from my area and the demo's were doing the rounds, and i liked it.... what i don't like is them being arrogant twats, they might be good at what they do on stage but they certainly need to grow up and learn some manners... TT would never use another act to get publicity, thats what A.M did, acting like 10 men when they are actually 4 boys with no manners or respect for anyone but themselves.... but they have made decent tracks... but i wont buy their albums becasue they are complete tossers and i dont want to help line their pockets

Hm.... Donal, I think the reason people are talking about Take That on the Q Mag website is because ...um... Q magazine awarded Take That the "Q Idol Award". And, not only that, but at the award ceremony, Alex Turner decided to slag them off. And, not only that but, at the top of this page of the Q Daily it asks for user comments about the 'story'. And I guess that's why people are talking about them.

sorry Danny from your comment above its not clear who you are referring to as cunt - I think having read your comments/views it must be yourself . Judging by your comments above you obviously drew on all your wit, charm and expensive education to come up with those (yes I am being sarcastic).
Plus if you are going to slag TT off you should find out a bit about how they came about first. Take That toured the country doing every shit venue as long as it got them on the ladder and they climbed their way up from the very bottom, touring in a crapy old hire van driven by their manager, no PR and no record company at first their manager remortgaged his house to release their first single, on his tiny record label. Take That never started as mighty PR machine, what they have achieved today, which regardless of whether you like them or their music, is immense, has come from all the hard work they put in at the start.

As someone who prefers his music to have an 'edge' [punk/grunge/'alternative'/'indy'/etc.] I never imagined I would be coming down on the side of Take That, but the longer this debate goes on, the more I feel a sense of loathing towards the Monkeys and their MORONIC fans. TT have acquired some kind of 'credibility' over the years (in the same way that Abba have, for example). TT (and their fans) get my respect. Arseholes like little Danny (above), deserve a kick in the nuts.

Bottom line is Alex Turner has made himself look like a total NOB......got caught up in the moment, thought he'd be clever and say something witty, and ended makin himself look a twat
makes me laugh when people say that TT had all this PR to get started, people that say that obviously no nothin about the band i know how the monkeys came about, mainly word of mouth and the internet etc, not much work went into it they just sat at home squeezing their zits and stuffing Mac D's and cans of Stella down their necks, doing the odd gig in the back room of some pub, going into chap and showing off infront of their mates (by the way i'm from same town in sheff and we don't sound nearly as common as he does so i think he's putting that on a bit too). when TT started you couldnt just download tracks and go onto forums, they did it the hard way, anyone can press a button and download an album, people actually went to the shops stood in a queue and bought TT's music.
TT toured the country playing 3 gigs a day for a year trying to get a foot on the ladder, and once they did there was no stopping them. I like AM tracks and if they are on the radio i will listen to them etc, just wont be buying any of their stuff anymore that's all but i wont turn them off if they come on the radio cus i do like their music...
Bless Mark, i love the fact that he went marching up to them, thought it was so funny. I reckon Howard should have walked behind him as back up, theyd have crapped their pants he is 6ft of 100% muscle and would make mince meat out of em!! (I am now having bizarre visions of Mark and Howard in a scrap with the monekys, with their shirts off covered in baby oil) Oh Yes, the stuff dreams are made of..... (let's take a moment to think about that girls)

One of my biggest disappointments in life was that I was in Syndey about 11 years ago. I went for a HUGE gay party called The Sleaze Ball. Take That were in Sydney at the time and it was hotly rumoured that they would be putting in an appearance. When they didn't turn up, I was really disappointed. I would love to have seen them perform. Now, they are icons and heroes of their time and they are back again. In spite of my usual musical tastes, I think I would love to see them live - at the very least, just to say "I've seen them". I can't imagine having any such longing to see the Arctic Monkeys. They are a huge disappointment [read: "bunch of wankers"]. They are arrogant and they should show some respect other people in the music biz - especially ACHIEVERS and GRAFTERS like Take That - whether they like them or not.

Well, I can confess to having their Greatest Hits CD (not that I ever play it much) and I I have watched (with much delight) the video they did with them all on the beach naked and I have seen Robbie in concert at Knebworth. [Is Robbie still loved by Thatters?] Mark Owen also did some really good [and I mean REALLY good] solo stuff too.
Take That have achieved a lot and they deserve their place in musical history. They deserve their award and the whole point in me 'sticking up for them' is they deserve respect for what they have achieved. Their fans have been loyal. For a bunch of lads to come back 10 years after reforming and get the level of support shown just on this page is a testament to them and their fans.
A girl friend of mine saw them in concert recently and she was blown away by how brilliant they were. What I like about them is that they all seem so unassuming in spite of their phenomenal success - and that where tossers like Alex Turner and Liam Gallagher turn me off. They could learn a lot from some of their peers instead of slagging them off for absolutely no reason. What has been achieved by Turner's comments? He has allienated himself (and his 2nd rate band) and shored up support for Take That!
I also love the fact that Thatters are SOooooo loyal! The world needs more lyalty. And love.

Thatters have mixed feelings about Robbie. Some love him because he has done so well and started in TT but some can't forget what his attitude has been like in the past and feel he is still too big for his boots.
I am the latter!
I do love a lot of his songs though, so I do own his Greatest Hits. Only bought it though after I saw the TT documentary where he sort of apologised for being an idiot. I don't listen to it much either. He's a great performer but...
I'm a Gary fan and most of Robbie's insults were aimed at him. Hope they can make peace!
I am so pleased that the majority of these comments support Take That. Even people saying they don't particularly like the music or them but feel they deserve respect for what they have achieved. Those comments probably mean the most.
Even Noel Gallagher has turned his attention to making sure everyone knows how pathetic the Arctic Monkeys are. Well done "our kid"!

I never kept up-to-date on the reasons for Robbie being ousted from the group as I was never particularly interested. I have never understood why Gary was/is so popular with Thatters. I thought his solo stuff was very weak. I think Mark is the best and Jason is the sexiest. What would be really great is if Robbie made a guest appearance on one of TT's future tours or CDs. Just so we have some demonstration of peace and love in the world.
BTW: Is Jason gay? [I am interested to know! He's cute!]

Gary's songs are beautiful but he never had the confidence or star quality to perform them like he has with the other 3 guys around him. I love both of Gary's albums and still think he should have been more successful. He has been behind the scenes being incredibly successful anyway cause he's an amazing song writer.
Mark's solo stuff is bloody brilliant!! Even Robbie has said it's probably the most "real" of all of TT's solo efforts and it really is.
Jason might come out one day! He looks like he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders sometimes. Then again he might be telling the truth and is actually looking for a lady, a very masculine lady though!! x

I am sooo pleased to see the support Take That have been getting on this page. I honestly believe the people who are supporting AM's comments are only doing so to be controversial and get a rise out of us. Yes, it is working but we will support TT forever and always!
It is surprising the number of people who think just because we like TT we don't like any other music? I am a big fan of almost all music I just really, really, really love Take That!
As for the people saying how old Take That are? Seriously what is that all about? Have you folks heard of Neil Diamond, Elton John, George Michael, Lionel Ritchie, Tom Jones etc, etc? They are all mega stars who are at the older end of the spectrum yet still have many, many loyal fans! They are a lot older than TT and don't seem to be up for criticism due to their age?

Thinking about it, this is a 'no-brainer' now. TT were given the "Q IDOL" award. Note, moronic Monkey fans, the word "IDOL". Read the posts on this page from top to bottom. Take That are IDOLised by their fans and so, without question, the award to TT was not only worthy but extremely popular.
Interestingly, The Arctic Monkeys won the "People's Choice" award. Looking at these posts, there is only one act in the UK who should seriously have that award and it is Take That. If, next year, Take That get nominated for Best Group, Best Album, Best Single, whatever... whatever... they will absolutely run away with the "People's Choice" award. I have never seen so much solid, loyal and fanatical support for one group since (dare I say it) The Beatles.
I will definitely try and get to see TT at some point. It's great that they've reformed and given me and everybody else the chance to go see them.
As for "seeing" them or "doing" them, well it seems like we may be able to share them out, hey girls! [I know which one I want!]

Actually, this award is not for the band's music talent. It's not for their influence on younger generation. So, it's OK to give Idol Award to non-talented bollocks. More acceptable than giving Inspiration Award to a one-hit wonder, whose fans consists of middle-aged housewives.

This 'real' music debate is gettin up my nose-i love TT and also Eminem-can't imagine AM, Oasis or anyone else for that matter slaggin off Marshall Mathers, and he doesn't play any instruments, so does that make him manufactured?The smelly monkeys just needed a target to make themselves 'controversial' and decided Take That were it-they've done themselves no favours, any group/artist would be damn lucky to have fans as loyal and dedicated as us-despite what some of the contributors above think-us TT fans have wide and varied music tastes, which may have included the pubic monkeys. Take That are rubbish - their music is sold on how they look, dance etc. Very little of it is down to the quality of the songs. Can any of the people above honestly say that if Back for Good, a million love songs etc was recorded by someone who does not breakdance or take their top of for photographs such as David Gray they would really buy the records?
As for the Artic Monkeys - they got what they wanted out of this - lots of free publicity and invitations to lots more award ceremony's

Those songs were written, arranged and sung by someone who doesn't break dance or take their top off for photographs.
That has nothing to do with it.
If the music was shit, we wouldn't buy it. Hence why thier first few songs didn't do well in the charts, good looking guys but the songs weren't up to scratch.
They were naked in their first video but the song went into the charts at the low 80s!! Getting naked didn't work for them so they came up with some quality music.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not good. How can you be so narrow minded about music!

Funny you mention David Gray as i actually really like him, and damien rice and jack johnson and none of them take off their clothes, so we don't only buy music because the artist just happens to be nice to look at.
you can't sell records on sex appeal, maybe you can have a couple of hits riding on the back of that but you cant dominate the music industry for 5 years and then come and do it all over again just on good looks!!
i don't know about you but i don't have a magic stereo where the band actaully jump out half naked and breakdancing and perform the song in my living room (although i wish i did), so how can anyone say that we only buy the music because of what they look like.. what a load of shit!!
the songs are top quality and have stood the test of time, take that have longevity because they are talented singers / songwriters / musicians and for no other reason, the fact they are fit is a bonus
we can't deny that their looks is what probably attracted us to them in the first place but it's so much more than that, as i said you can't sell millions and millions of records on looks....

Take That are shit... Arctic Monkeys have sold more records than any debut album in its first week in the UK... EVER. And they did that without any publicity, they aren’t manufactured shite and they are true to themselves. They're only 19 and 20 and ALL their gigs sell out in minutes.

Emily, How can TT be shit but also be legends who have your respect? They are far from shit. They sing live, play and write their own songs and are bloody marvellous. Look at the support they have, the public are no fools when it comes to good music (Westlife excluded, lol)
All of Take That's gigs sold out in minutes and they hadn't done anything new for over 10 years. They sold the gig on nostalgia admittedly but are now following that up with new songs which are, in my opinion, the best they've done to date. The best pop music around. The thing people love about them is that they are not out to offend anyone, they don't need that sort of publicity.
Arctic Monkeys don't either... so you understand our confusion by their attitude and complete lack of respect.
They've lost more fans than they've gained with the attitude.
Only time will tell though hey.
You may not like them but that in no way does that make them shit or people that deserve to be called bollocks by little urks barely out of the stages of puberty. Or DOES IT? Am I missing the point of music? Each to their own!

I HONESTLY can't believe you guys are still writing on this thing - I haven't looked on for ages and just thought I'd see, out of interest, what you TT fans are going on like now that they've gotten to number one.
And I was right, you're all still banging on as if TT are amazing, and I also notice that some of you, the same ones, are questioning peoples tastes - you are more than happy to slag off the Arctic Monkeys, but you're getting on at others cause they don't like TT.
Let's be honest girls, this is just a flash in the pan, they will have this album, then quietly disappear back to their mansions and old age, and once again you lot will be heartbroken, bringing back the pain you all felt 10 years ago when it happened the first time round.
What I don;t get is how this one story, from over a month ago, is still home to one of the biggest blogs I have ever seen - you don't HAVE to try and convert everyone into being TT fans, cause you should all have realised by now that there are many people who DON'T WANT TO BE CONVERTED - and will NEVER like TT!! I don't care how many albums they've sold or gigs they've sold out - it's still the same old fanbase from 10 years ago - the sad thing is you're all 10 years older than you were back then!!

Yes the monkeys had a fast selling debut album and the upshot is the stuff thats they have now is nowhere near as good. The trick is produce a decent 2nd album.
The loyalty shown here to TT is outstanding from fans of all ages pammy gee you don't seem to be able to read the posts. It doesn't seem to be all the old fanbase.
Monkeys if your filling stadiums and breaking records in ten years then hands up but I doubt it very much. One album wonders more like it.

Is it a small bit of coincidence that most of these posters, defending Take That, are female? I like both bands equally - ie not much - but I do think it was a cheap shot. Take That are a welcome return compared to the Pop Idol rubbish we're getting nowadays. I like Paitence and I also enjoyed their live show on the TV - yes I know I'm going soft in my old age - whereas I hated them first time coz they were the anti-indie. I've since grown to appreciate all kinds of music and Take that are some of the better ones. Oh, for God's sake... stop fighting. Everyone likes different kinds of music and in people's minds things can sound good or bad. It's who you are.
I'm a Take That fan, and I think that that's a horrid thing to say about them. If they hate Take That, it's probably because they are jealous of their success. They were pretty much the most sucessful band in Britain since The Beatles.
So what if we listen to 90's music? It flaming rocks according to us, and we love their new music too so please keep quiet, we're always entitled to our opinions.

The Arctic Monkeys are probably some people's favourite band, while other people can't stand them, and the same for Take That.

Christ, just found this little comment by Alex Turner.
I hardly agree with anyone here.
Of course Alex Turner should be careful what he's saying. Maybe he doesn't like Take That but he could tell them to their face and not in front of an audience. But this kid was 20 years old and probably couldn't handle the fame which was new for him. I think he has changed a little by now.
On the other hand many Take That fans on here seem to be so angry they're not being fair either. It's not a sign of maturity either to start insulting the Arctic Monkeys and saying things that aren't true. They're obviously talented young men and I think they definitely can still be big in ten years and longer if they learn how to concentrate on their own music and leaving other artists alone.

I HATE TAKE THAT AND I WISH THEY WERE ALL DEAD! I hate them SO much that I would happily torture them for days on end until they went insane, then I would torture them even more, then after a few months I would kill them in the most painful and horrible way possible.
