Winner: The Edge

The Q Innovation In Sound Award this year is presented to The Edge. Known as Dave Evans to his mum and dad, The Edge took on the role of U2's guitarist when he answered an ad to join Larry Mullen Jr's band in late 70s Dublin. His trademark guitar sound - perfected with liberal use of the echo pedal - put U2 at the forefront of the new wave and took them into stadiums worldwide. As a multi-instrumentalist, Edge's talent has been showcased at notable events such as Red Rocks, Live Aid and the Zoo TV tour, while taking U2 into new sonic territory across albums like Achtung Baby and Zooropa. Along with his songwriting and vocal duties with U2, The Edge has also explored production and soundtrack work, most notably on 1987's The Captive. Q salutes The Edge's commitment to sound production today with this special award.
