Brian May has announced via his personal website that Queen are set to begin work on their first studio album in fifteen years.
Former Free lead-singer Paul Rodgers will take the place of Freddie Mercury on vocals.
May stressed that the sound of the album will most probably be unlike anything Queen or Free have released previously, and also stated that if the recordings are not up to scratch they will be discarded.
No release date has yet been set.
Do you think Brian May is entitled to continue working under the name Queen? Or is it not Queen without the magic of Freddie Mercury? Have your say on this story by leaving a comment below...

Definitely not. They must use some other name, because only Queen albums can come from the vaults/archives.

Its Queen + Paul Rodgers...so that is a new name. Good on them.

Brian and Roger should record an album together and share the vocals themselves.

How about if the combined both band's names, and call themselves Freen? or Quee?

they have every right,but.....without Freddie?that band was the sum of it's parts, even without John Deacon I don't think it could ever be as amazing.

No I do not think they should still use the name Queen, not without Freddie and John. I think it's really disrespectfull.

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE! Give it up. Queen died the moment Freddie did. To continue a band as big as Queen without its iconic frontman is just ridiculous. [Can you imagine the Rolling Stones without Mick? Nirvana without Kurt?] The whole idea is to make money as May and Taylor know that far fewer people would buy the album released under a different name. They should be ashamed of themselves. Queen was Freddie and Freddie was Queen. The other 3 were essentially just Freddie's backing band.

I ´ll listen to the music not to the name.I think they can do a lot of great music, and we all know that Freddie was unique and an incredible genious. That said, let´s wait for the record.

Once a legend like Freddy dies any band should give up. It's not as if they have not made enough money. Come on lads enjoy your retirement and live the music making to the youngsters.

I love Brian and Roger to death. But really now, this has got to stop. At least John Deacon has the decency / sense to remain apart from the the debacle that's been going on since Freddie's death. This is not Queen, it will never be Queen. Go find another name for fuck's sake and quit rolling poor Freddie about in the grave.

No, continue under another name, its not just Freddie that is gone but also John, It often looks like they just cant give it up and use the Queen name because of the weight it carries. The limited success they have both had since Freddie died shows the name Queen died with him. I think John has shown the most respect for Freddie and the other two should follow his lead.
