REM, Grandmaster Flash and Van Halen are just some of the acts nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.
First time nominees REM join Chic, The Dave Clark Five, The Ronettes and Joe Tex, as well as Patti Smith and Iggy & The Stooges. Nominees become eligible 25 years after they released their first record and are voted for by 700 music industry figures.
A&M Records (now owned by Universal and distributing Interscope, Polydor and Geffen) founders Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss are this years non-performer nominees.

Well if one-hit-wonder Joe Tex and The Dave Clark 5 can get nominated, why not Jeff Lynne (and/or ELO)? His innovative achievements far outweigh any of the other nominations.

I echo Davie and Martin's sentiments. I am disappointed to see that Jeff Lynne has been overlooked yet again.

The Dave Clark Five one hit wonders? Give me a break! Their inclusion in the Hall has been long overdue. Name a British Invasion band other than The Beatles & possibly The Stones that have had more hits. Guess which group Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band is modeled after? Ever wonder why The Max Weinberg Seven is named that way?
