Outkast man to release solo record

Comments

Fuelling speculation that Atlanta hip-hop act Outkast are about to split, one half of the band, rapper Big Boi, has revealed he will release a solo album in 2007.

With seven albums to their name – their first long-player Southernplayalisticadallacmuzik was released in 1994 - Big Boi (Antwan Patton) and his partner André 3000 (Benjamin André) have rarely worked together on tracks since 2000’s Stankonia – to the extent that their 2003 album Speakerboxx/The Love Below was essentially two separate albums packaged as one. Their last LP, Idlewild only contained one song featuring both of them, with all the other songs produced individually.

Big Boi claims his solo album will have something for everyone, “You're going to get something from every genre, every funk, beat, loop, horn, whistle. We got it all on the record. I got maybe 35 beats already done for it now so I'm just diving in and trying to carve out the pie with the vocals."

There is no word as to whether André 3000 is also planning work outside of the band.
