UK Hall of Fame honours "Fifth Beatle"

Comments

Some of music's greats were inducted into the UK Hall of Fame last night at Alexandra Palace before partying across London.

Guests including New Order, The Buzzcocks, Alanis Morissette, Jamie Cullum, Slash, Beverley Knight and Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne turned out to honour the inductees.

Razorlight's Johnny Borrell, Corinne Bailey Rae, Queen's Roger Taylor and José Gonsalez joined a 21-piece orchestra and the London Community Gospel Choir in playing a medley of tracks from Abbey Road, which Martin conducted.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown was booed as he presented Martin with his award, with numerous guests shouting "murderer". An unfazed Martin said "I never realised I was as good as all that. I'm not to be honest, this is hyperbole."

Jon Bon Jovi strolled up the red carpet at the last minute, and played a set with his band including an acoustic version of Livin' On a Prayer. Jimmy Page accepted Led Zeppelin's award to the sounds of Wolfmother covering Communication Breakdown, James Morrison honoured Rod Stewart and Joss Stone covered soul legend Dusty Springfield.

Soul legend-est, James Brown, was inducted by Soul II Soul's Jazzie B, while Prince accepted his award from Beyoncé. Beach Boys' Brian Wilson also received an award, but played his own music rather than being covered, including a version of 1966's Good Vibrations.

Who do you think should have been inducted? And just how much do Wolfmother want to be Led Zeppelin? Tell us here.

  • I wonder if Jimmy Page was bemused to hear a professional Led Zep cover band play a song they probably think they wrote.
