Chartwatch - Christmas Number 1

Comments

X-Factor winner Leona Lewis has, as expected, bagged the Christmas Number 1 for 2006. The 21-year-old reality TV show champion knocked Take That into second place for the coveted prize, despite her single only being available since Wednesday (20 December). The single had sold over 50,000 copies on download just half an hour after going on sale, meaning William Hill closed the book on the Number 1 spot early last week.

Runners up were McFly at Number 3 with Sorry’s Not Good Enough and Girls Aloud at Number 4 with their cover of I Think We’re Alone Now. The classic Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues And Kirsty MacColl was the highest placed custom-made Christmas single at Number 6, despite being released nearly 20 years ago. Sir Cliff Richard lost out on the festive top spot by only hitting Number 7 with 21st Century Christmas.
