After almost 6 years of speculation, and copious photos and videos of 'fakes’ surfacing on the internet (the image to the left is one of them), it seems the Apple iPod Phone, or the iPhone, is imminent.
Kevin Rose, who founded social networking website Digg.com, let some information about the phone slip during his weekly Diggnation Podcast, after explaining he had a reliable source on the inside at Apple. Rose had previously ‘predicted’ the release of the iPod Nano, so technology insiders are taking this leak very seriously.
Rose said the Apple Phone would be “small as shit” and would have two batteries inside, one for the digital audio player and one for the phone, so users could still send a receive calls even if they listened to music – and consequently ran down the battery. He suggested there would be two versions of the phone, a 4GB version for $249, and an 8GB version for $449, and that the phone would have a slide out keyboard, and a “touch screen on the outside”.
He said that he expected the announcement to be made in January next year, and hinted that the phones were already in production.
Despite the seemingly concrete source for these rumours, many are taking them with a pinch of salt given the long-history of speculation and secrecy surrounding the iPhone. Ever since the iPod started to grow in popularity in late 2003, speculation and fake leaks have flooded onto the internet of an iPod Phone.
Are you excited at the prospect of the iPhone? Will you buy one when they’re released? Is it really such a big deal?

Nope. It looks strange anddoesn't hold a lot. What's the point if you already have a phone and a mp3 player?
