Muse to play Wembley Stadium

Comments

Muse have announced that they will play Wembley Stadium on June 16 next year. They will be the first band to perform at the newly-refurbished 90,000 capacity venue - building delays meant that the original contender for the honour of opening the stadium, Bon Jovi, had to reschedule their show to the Milton Keynes Bowl in June 2006. Other gigs by The Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams, Take That and even the FA Cup Final have also had to be moved to other venues, while construction on the £757 million building continued.

Tickets go onsale on Saturday December 9 at 9am. Click here to buy tickets when they go on sale.

Are Muse the ideal choice to open the new Wembley Stadium? Or should a veteran rock band like The Stones have that honour? And will they be able to fill the venue? Tell us what you think.

  • They're the first band to be booked. Of course, if someone else gets in before them, they won't be...

  • Muse are by far the most spectacular, exciting and musicallty talented band today - absolutely the most appropriate band to open new Wembly stadion!

  • I cant think of a better band to open the stadium. their talent is vast verging on operatic and their stage show unsurpassed. Already the Saturday has sold out completely. Matt Bellamy has a voice that reaches into the depths of his being and into the listener, one cant help but be moved, the sounds and light show will almost be an exorcicism of all the frustrations, angst, delays and doubts around this stadium. They vocalise a statement of the present and the hope for the future in their lyrics. They are 'The' band of this present time, of now, and of the future. It is meant to be, they have the unrecognised stature to fill that stadium. Its almost bibical. Amazingly good choice. I'll be there.

  • I think bon jovi still should have been given the chance to be the first band to play at the new stadium as they were given the chance before it was announced that there were delays to the deadline of the building being finished.

Dont think its right that someone else should take there place. Im gutted over this.

    BON JOVI FAN

  • I think Muse are talented but it's a fucking disgrace that they should be the band opening the new wembley, over artists such as Bon Jovi and U2. Bon Jovi closed the last one & were given the chance to open the new one. That should have been respected, and therefored Bon Jovi should be invited back to open the new one, as they would put on the biggest and best rock concert ever played in London!

    Bon Jovi are LEGENDS!!!---Respect that!

  • MUSE are the best band ever, even greater... everything they do is just too good to be true—
so, they are supposed to be the first at Wembley: their talent obliges them:)
JUST SEE THEM LIVE ONCE, AND YOU'LL TOTALLY AGREE WITH WHAT I'M TALKING!!!
it's just incredible what Matt, Chris, and Dom do on stage - it's amazing, awesome, it's perfect and it's so 'electrifying'. I guess it's some kind of sign that they're gonna be the first to rock Wembley - the proof of their unearthly talent.
But even if something changes, they will still be my greatest heros and idols. They challenge everybody, every band. Only those who can do better than MUSE deserve to be the first...
(but the guys who've won Brit Awards for 'Best Live Act' are overhead still—)

  • Looks like muse have had to make way for George Michael...worst news EVER!!!

They're still playing but George's concert is on earlier. Thats stupid, it should deffo be a band that opens it!
