Human cobweb Russell Brand has been signed up to host next year's BRIT Awards, which will be the first live ceremony in 15 years (yes, since that Jarvis/Jackson incident).
The awards will be held at Earls Court on February 14 and will go out live on ITV. Viewers will be asked to vote for the Top Single prize during the course of the show.
Peter Jamieson, Co-Chairman of the BRITs organising committee, said, "We always promised that BRITs 2007 would be an edgy, exciting show. First we announced we'd broadcast live. Then we announced Oasis as our Outstanding Contribution Award winner. And now there's Russell Brand. The only place to be on Valentines Night is going to be with the BRITs."
Nominations will be announced at the Hammersmith Palais in London on January 16.
Five Great Brit Moments
Jarvis Cocker waving his arse at the auidence during Michael Jackson's Earth Song at the 1996 event. Seminal.
The Scissor Sisters opening the 2005 show with help from Jim Henson's creature shop.
Kylie's live mash up of Can't Get You Out Of My Head and Blue Monday in 2002.
The Spice Girls' era-defining performance at the 1997 show, complete with Geri Halliwell's Union Jack dress.
Kanye West appearing on stage with 77 models dressed in bikinis and gold paint this year. Excess? What's that?
Five Bad Brit Moments
The 1989 show - all of it, especially the Sam Fox / Mick Fleetwood gruesome twosome.
Prince joined by his enormous security guard as he picks up Best International Act and Best Soundtrack in 1985. Why? Who was likely to attack him?
Bob Geldof's rendition of I Don't Like Mondays in 2005. What time's the last bus home?
"Bad boy" Mark Morrison satirising his recent troubles with the law by appearing on stage with a troupe of fake policewomen. Very clever.
Chumbawamba vocalist Danbert Nobacon pouring a jug of water over the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott at the 1998 event. Yeah, right on! Who are you again?
Are the Brits still relevant? Will Brand make it any good? Let us know what you think!
