Simon Cowell has refuted longstanding rumours that American Idol fan Bob Dylan would appear on the show, and given him one of his famous put-downs at the same time.
Bob Dylan is a longstanding fan of the show and expressed an interest to come on the show back in 2004, but given the X Factor/American Idol billionaire's recent comments on Dylan that now seems somewhat unlikely.
“I’ve never bought a Dylan record,” claims the Idol creator. “A singing poet? It just bores me to tears.” Considering the standard of some of the acts Cowell has supported on The X Factor in the UK, we'd take that with a pinch of salt had he not continued: “I’ve got to tell you, if I had 10 Dylans in the final of American Idol, we would not be getting 30 million viewers a week. I don’t believe the Bob Dylans of this world would make American Idol a better show.”

This is coming from a guy who is on a show where Clay Aiken did well. Now there's some slick, really produced, music!! The general public usually likes garbage fluff over substance.

Bob Dylan & X Factor do not go together.
They are two extremes of the other. In that respect Simon has a valid point, why on earth would you put a serious artist on to a show about that's primarily about fame and celebrity than being an artist?
They are different things. I don't understand why Bob Dylan would be interested in appearing on the show either.
I enjoy X Factor & I enjoy Bob Dylan - but both for very different reasons. I wouldn't be interested in mixing them up & Simon is quite right for thinking the same...

Please rethink wanting to go on X Factor Mr Bob Dylan - it's shit. I do suggest though that with your heaps of cash you could start a show for genuine talented musicians that are in it for the love of their art and not the love of celebrity. Mr Cowell is of no importance to art, humanity or nature in general.

If simon cowell has never heard a Bob Dylan record then that explains quite clearly (to me at least), why he fails to produce any musicians/artists that last more than 1 or 2 number ones and then fade away. Maybe he should stop listening to this/his manufactured for the masses, money making pap, and start listening to some true artists/musicians, be they new or old.

Just goes to show you. Cowell is a producer of pap pop, whereas Dylan writes songs with lyrics that intrigue, melodies that haunt and it takes a brain to understand! Something Cowell obviously has managed to do without!

Well, I agree that bob should not be on X factor. Can you really see him going for any of that shite that wins? And lets face it, bob can't sing too well so he wouldn't really qualify to tell anyone they can't (don't fight with me I'm a fan). But Cowell really is an arse. But when he dies and all that cash means fuck all except for the "friends" he had in life fighting over it, Cowell will be forgotten, except when people toast his demise. Dylan on the other hand will have plaques put up, streets named after him and tributes endless. That means far more than all the cash in the world. Strangely, Cowell is the "JUDAS" to music. (I'm rather ashamed a brit came up with this piece of heckling). So to reiterate, dylans legacy will last forever, Cowell I'll forget once I've danced happily on his grave. Discuss!
