REM and Patti Smith join Hall of Fame

Comments

REM and Patti Smith have been nominated for inclusion into the US Hall of Fame alongside hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash, The Ronettes and Van Halen.

Unsurprisingly nominations don't please everyone, least of all the nominees. Former lead singer of Van Halen Sammy Hagar says that tensions between him and ex-bandmates David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen could lead to a bust-up. He told Cleveland newspaper The Plain Dealer, "Dave's gonna want it to be all about him. Ed's gonna want it to be all about him. And that's a tough one right there. I'll probably just be sitting over in the corner, cracking up."

As the nominees must have released their debut album 25 years ago or more, looking ahead to 2008's potential inductees sees Madonna, Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers The Smiths and Stevie Ray Vaughn all qualifying, having released debuts in 1983.

Did they recognise the right people? Let us know who'd you like to see in the Hall of Fame.
