The BBC has banned Pete Doherty from being mentioned on children's TV because he is not a good influence on their viewers.
Speaking on Newswatch, Newsround editor Tim Levell said, "On Newsround we have an informal agreement we don't cover Pete Doherty at all - in fact, there is one across the whole of BBC Children's TV. And if his management asked if he could be a guest on a Saturday morning show, we would say no because we don't think he is a good role model for children."
Levell went on to say that while he could understand Doherty's newsworthiness, he thought that the star had had too much exposure: "He hasn't had any hit singles. I couldn't sing a single Doherty song."
Doherty's manager Andy Boyd later said, "Kids who want to buy Peter's records will not not buy them because the BBC are not supporting him. I would like their support, but it's not critical to his future career.
"Things are getting better and better and we are are about to sign the largest record deal of the year."
Are the BBC wrong in banning Doherty from children's TV, or is this too little too late?

Not at all, Petes lyrics, and his lifestyle are aimed at an older audience. Altho for the CBBC guy to say Pete hasnt had any hit singles is crazy! He should get his facts straight before making statements!

In response to Tim Wilson - "kuss a talented rebel who like the odd shot of heroine"?! (the only heroine I agree with that its ok shooting up is Kate Moss but thats spelt differently to the drug) You are obviously about 14 who thinks its cool and "rebellious" to be a smackhead who has lived off The Libertines for God knows how many years. The man is a total and utter waste of space and as someone who has 2 kids who I regularly take to indie gigs, he is everything wrong with our society - lovable rogue my arse, thieving smackheads are NOT lovable rogues. I could reel off about 50 indie bands who have a more talented singer/song writer than Doherty and are knocking out some great tunes and find it a bit of a buzz to actually turn up to a gig they're supposed to be playing. He's a middle class Sid Vicious Wannabe Twat and I just wish the rest of the media would follow the BBCs stance cos I'm sick of hearing about his junkie exploits,

Well I think the CBBC guy is definately right. I couldn't name a single song let alone sing one! His behaviour is shocking, but it is only because he gets rewarded via the press that he continues like this! Go BBC!!!

wll as michael griffiths said, the songs that pete does are for an older audience!
i am a 16 year old girl, but i do not think that what pete is doing is at all right, but sometimes when you get into something it is very hard to get back out of it!
i am a ver big babyshambles fan and their music is absolutely fantastic! just because others do not think so doesnt mean the talent is not there, even if you cant see past the addictions!
and to be honest, pete not being on newsround is not exactly a great loss! its not exactly thrilling viewing!
pete was fantastic on jonathon ross and it would be a shame if they stopped him appearing on things like that, but for kids tv it isnt a great loss to pete!

Well, I couldn't give a shite really. most of the music I like doesn't get on mainstream TV - such as the Flaming Lips who are just great. And Radiohead and they have loads of hits. That guy who wants to shoot up Kate Moss, two things. One, she probably wouldn't touch you because it won't further her career and second, she's dirty. You'll only do it once coz you piece'll drop off. Painfully.

It's another typical BBC view on things. Hiding to the public what really is going on. The guy has had some really poor press and people who talk about him with words such as 'he's never had a hit' are the people who only recognise him for his career over shadowed by drugs. Pete's hits aren't his, they're the libertines/babyshambles... and to the naive are more the kind of songs they'd recognise if they heard.
Silly really .x

Well he's an arse anyway. So anything that'll damage his reputation or whatever is good from my point of view.
I don't like Babyshambles but the early Libertines' early stuff was okay. But he's still an arse. And look at Dirty Pretty Things now... they are doing so much better than the Libertines OR Babyshambles. Well, they sound better anyway. Without Pete Doherty...
So I guess good for the BBC. However, I don't know any children's TV program which ever mentioned him. The arse...

Well done BBC/CbbC! Why should he be on telly anyway? The guy is a total waster crackhead who can't sing and whose only claim to fame is taking drugs and going out with Ms Moss...!
