Long considered the only serious alternative to Glastonbury, California's Coachella festival has inspired a number of bands to reform over the years, and Rage Against The Machine are the latest to follow suit.
Six years on from Zach De La Rocha's falling out with the rest of the band, RATM will play Coachella, which takes place between 27-29 April, as the original line-up, with rumours of a proper tour afterwards.
The Jesus and Mary Chain and Crowded House are also lining up for Coachella reformations, despite Crowded House's Neil Finn having said there would be no reunion following fellow founding member Paul Hester's suicide in 2005. Neil Finn site webmaster, Peter Green, said on Frenz.com, "Neil has had a hankering to play in a band again and what better band to do this in but the one he had the most joy with?"
It's become a Coachella tradition to reunite at least one band for the festival. It got Pixies back together in 2004 and was the set for The Stooges reunion back in 2003, with Siouxsie and the Banshees and Jane's Addiction among those who have reformed. It's not always successful though: it tried to get Cocteau Twins to play in 2005 but vocalist Elizabeth Fraser cancelled.
In non-reunion news, Björk and Red Hot Chilli Peppers will also be playing headline sets at the festival.
The full line-up is Björk, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arcade Fire, Sonic Youth, Air, The Roots, Willie Nelson, Interpol, Manu Chao, Ghostface Killah, Fountains Of Wayne, Jarvis Cocker, The Good, The Bad And The Queen, Hot Chip, Peeping Tom, The Decemberists, The Happy Mondays, Arctic Monkeys, Tiesto, Kings Of Leon, Travis, Placebo, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Lily Allen, Paul Van Dyk, Gotan Project, Kaiser Chiefs, Silversun Pickups, Faithless, LCD Soundsystem, DJ Shadow, Satellite Party, Stephen Marley featuring Jr Gong, Konono No 1, Nickel Creek, The Black Keys, The New Pornographers, Rufus Wainwright, The Rapture, !!!, Richie Hawtin, Explosions In The Sky, Junior Boys, Sparklehorse, Soulwax, The Kooks, Felix Da Housecat, Blonde Redhead, Damien Rice, Lupe Fiasco, Jose Gonzales, Brazilian Girls, Regina Spektor, Ozomatli, Peaches, Cornelius, We Are Scientists, Amy Winehouse, The Comedians Of Comedy, Spank Rock, Tapes 'n Tapes, Klaxons, Girl Talk, CSS, The Coup, Andrew Bird and Peter, Bjorn and John.
