The Police tour rumours

Comments

The Police are finalising plans for a tour to celebrate their 30-th anniversary, according to reports in the Daily Mirror. The band, who sold millions in the late '70s and early '80s with hits like Roxanne, Walking On The Moon and Don't Stand So Close To Me, split acrimoniously in 1986, making their last live appearance on the Amnesty Conspiracy Of Hope tour.

Since then, Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland have only publicly reunited for their induction into the Rock'n'Roll Hall Of Fame in 2003. An official announcement is expected within the month, with tour dates expected to take place in May and June.

  • Well, there's no upcoming young singers desperate to get a hit by singing with him and he probably needs the cash to keep up his lentil mountain. Oh, and he's a has been and everyone thinks he's a twat. Even Live 8 counldn't save this career

  • i hope this does come off for the true fans who were just a little too young to see them back in the day only for them to split as we reached age. sting get your head out of your ass and jam with the guys. bring on the night indeed!!!!

  • Can't wait for this, going to be one of the highlights of my life, im 21 and a massive police fan, I never had the chance to see them in the day so im thrilled!!!

All these bring people taking about 'digging up the past' can get a life, instead of being so nieve about good quality music that has shaped the music they listen to, they should enjoy it and respect the songwriting.....

Sting,.......... get off the lute!! :)

  • to Danny,
the Police were a great old band,
Red Kangaroos are a great New band,
heavily inluenced by the police. Take a butchers Danny, the songwriting here is pretty damn good too YESSINDEEDY

  • Enjoy them live why not ! you have had to wait 20 yeas and now finally it will happen. Given the age of the members I doubt they will tour in another 20 years so enjoy it.
I never understood the concept of why peoples think bands are crap or past it. you dont have to go do you! What does that mean anyway? Music is Music, jumping around on stage is not music and yes age does stop them from doing that, is that what you mena !" they are fantastic live, saw them many years ago and was impressed.

Of course I love the new live music it all has a place so bring it on.
Alas the tickets will be expensive but what can we do..des

  • If the roumers are true then I as a die hard fan and fellow musician will be there to support and cheer them on...there has NEVER or NEVER will be another band that will come close to the songwriting/performing/musical skills that these three and i stress only THREE guys have...there are far too many negative comments on this site and my advice to you is 1. Either get out there and do it (perform) yourself or 2. Dont visit this site again!
If and when tickets do come on sale they will be sold out within two hours so not such a bad thing for three old timers...anyway musicians get better with age....remember old Blue eyes himself....Frank Sinartra?

  • The spelling and grammar by some of the contributors to this forum is appalling, surely consideration should be made when commenting on a possible tour by an ex-english teacher.

  • it's about time STING gave the other members of the POLICE a chance to catch up to him in the money stakes as frankly since they split up,his solo efforts haven't blown my socks off. come on PAUL WELLER and MORRISSEY.don't you think a JAM and SMITHS reunion is long overdue to the fans who've supported you throughout your careers.RETRO IS GREAT.

  • About time ive been hoping for this for years, my favourite band in the world but too young to see them back in the day! to be fair who would ever have thought that Gordon and Andy would resolve their differences

  • Great news about the Police reforming, I watched one of their very first performances the other day, was longing to have been there in the day, electric. I am 23 and brought up listening to the police now I have my chance to actually see them live!!! I agree with the comment just because they are reforming doesn't mean they are past it, hell their music knocks spots off some of the sh*te around today, that's why i'm still listening, they are original, its very narrow minded to slag off something that has inspired the music of today!!! I managed to see the Rolling Stones live recently and they still got it so come on Police rock on!

  • My husband raved on about the Police when we met in 1986. He loved Roxanne and Don't stand so close to me. He has never moved on from the 80's and he is now 42 !!
I would to take him to the concert if you decide to tour. PLEASE COME TO BIRMINGHAM - ENGLAND. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.

  • DONT BE STUPID....of course they wont tour the North East (Sting hates the North East remember) I doubt they will do many dates in England...in fact I think it is appalling that they have chosen to turn their back on England (where 66% of them are from AND where they found fame first) and have done everything Stateside with the announcements of reformation, tour, tour dates etc and we in England just have to sit and wait for them to announce what scraps and leftovers they toss our way when they finally get to Europe. Disgraceful.....I will be there to see them of course and YES tickets will be overpriced and sold out in TWO HOURS. I`ll turn up at the MEN arena 10mins after they go on stage and see if any touts have still got tickets to sell at a decent price....you can always rely on the touts
