Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has responded to jibes made by Noel Gallagher in the run up to last week's Brit Awards. In a typically cryptic post on his online blog, Yorke chose to ignore the ignore the specific remarks made by the Oasis guitarist. Instead he quoted a much earlier Gallagher taunt ("I never went to fucking university. I don’t know what a paint brush is, I never went to art school") and gave the withering response: "I did. It taught me to respect other artists."
The spat began when Gallagher gave a decidedly lairy pre-Brits interview with The Telegraph, in which he laid into Yorke, who had been nominated in the Best British Male Solo Artist category. "Thom Yorke sat a piano singing, 'This is fucked up' for half-an-hour. We all know that, Mr Yorke. Who wants to sing the news? No matter how much you sit there twiddling, going, 'We're all doomed,' at the end of the day people will always want to hear you play Creep. Get over it."
On the night, Yorke lost out to singer-songwriter James Morrison. Not that he was too bothered. The Radiohead singer didn't even turn up to the ceremony, sarkily commenting on his blog, "Staying at home or going to the Brits? Hmmm."
It's not the first time Yorke has taken a pot shot at Gallagher. In 1995, while touring America in support of The Bends, Yorke would often sing mocking cover versions of Oasis songs. Indeed, for those willing to trawl through cyberspace, there exist bootleg MP3s of Yorke sneering Wonderwall with magnificent venom. It's an example of Radiohead's often-overlooked sense of humour. Other early cover versions included Carly Simon's Nobody Does It Better, and - yes, really - Glen Campbell's cheesy country anthem Rhinestone Cowboy.
But we digress. Thom Yorke is not, perhaps, the type to get drawn into childish feuds - but we'd love to see this one run and run. Over to you, Noel...
Noel, Thom, who's side are you on?

Playing a 'sneering' version of an oasis song is hardly comedy genius. Ive heard it as well- he does wonderwall, with a manc accent. Not exactly being 'arch' or indeed 'above it all' are you thommy? Now I must bet back to my BBC World- I do believe Thom is on later wagging his finger at me for not buying fair trade. I do love being told off by multi-millionaire rock stars!!

Noel is a working class hero and Thom is a twat. Any first year art school student can capture the misery of life, it takes real genius to find the joy.

Is this a tough one because I love Radiohead and Oasis. But if it came to actual punches, Noel would probably rip Thom to piece for the mere fact that Noel grew up in Burnage and Thom in Wellingborough. I mean come on. Art School boy takes on one of the Fighting Gallaghers?

Envy talks so loud, doesn’t it? Now that Blur don’t exist this guy finds someone else to criticize. Noel writes square, boring, monotonous pop songs and Thom is beyond all this crap.
Working class hero my **s!!, It takes real, real genius to make people find joy in misery songs, don’t you think?

Thom really needs to get over himself.
Noel was hardly 'attacking' him or anyone else when he said that & even if his was, writing mysterious messages on your internet blog about it is hardly going to change matters.
Maybe it's time for Thom to start being an artist again.
We all are capable of reading a newspaper or switching the TV on, Radiohead's blog would be put to better use by giving the fans news on the band and the new album instead.

For god's sake Oasis are bloody useless! Definately maybe wasn't even that good and you've only started preferring it to What's the Story since Noel told you to!!!
And Q, what in the name of bielzibub makes you think that Definately Maybe is the best album in 20 years???? I mean, I know that there are a lot of stories you can write about Oasis and their extra curricular activities, a lot more than you can write about Radiohead, so it would be much easier for you if everyone preferred Oasis, but they don't!!!
You should have read your reader's last vote, ok computer and the bends, your reader's 2 most popular albums.

I saw Noel Gallagher pay a semi acoustic set in Melbourne a couple of months ago... it was rubbish. Washed up toss-pot who couldn't even manage some banter with the crowd much less an encore. Now, Oasis have some good songs and will provide happy memories from the 90's but have they done latley... not much.
I look forward to Thom Yorke offerings in the future, can't say the same about Noel Gallagher - and he is the "talented" one of the two brothers. Noel's not in the same league.

In 1995, when I was 15 years old, I bought Morning Glory and thought it was the best album ever-so many good hits! Four years later when my taste in everything had matured considerably I bought The Bends. Today The Bends is still a great album that has stood the test of time, while Morning Glory reeks of nostalgia and is nothing more than a reminder of how bad Britpop was. Radiohead have evolved exponentially since 1995 and will no doubt continue to do so. Oasis, on the other hand rely on using the same formula as always so a new generation of 15 year olds can snap up their album and send them to No. 1 and the Brits and... oh Liam s such a bad boy, he does what he likes!!

Fact: We will always want Oasis to play Wonderwall, and Radiohead to play Creep.
Noel sounds proud not to have been to uni, -there's nothing wrong in that...but Thom's right, he should respect other people who do go! Respect is what is missing in the world today. Shame that.
Nothing wrong either in singing about the news....but something very wrong in Oasis churning out Beatles-lite ditties...it's the only reason I listen to them, cos they remind me of the Fab Four. Radiohead however with The Bends and OK Computer are beyond compare. It's imprinted on my heart, somehting Oasis tunes will never be.
Out of Noel and Thom, I truly hope my son would emulate Thom.

Hmm... You seem to be confusing meaningless achievements with musicality. This is a common predicament these days but, luckily, it is easily treated. You should start by forming your own opinions about life, rather than living by what you see in the tabloids. I'm sure that, with the correct medication, you will be able to lead an (almost) normal and fulfilling existence. I wish you the best of luck

Thom probably just answers Noel because Noel seems to be fishing a fight, and probably wouldn't have stopped before getting an answer.
Noel is probably just bitter. He and Oasis was like the working class heroes of England in the early/middle 90s, but its clearly that it is Radiohead that pull the longest straw in the long run. Few people care about what Oasis is up to these days. Its pretty embarrassing to hear Noel talking about "indie-nonsense" just because Oasis failed to be one, and praises the charts just because that is somewhere they've had some triumphs.
Still though, I admit listening to Noel and Liam slag off other artists is pretty funny often. Its like they've done their research on what would piss certain artists off. It makes good entertainment. Still though, its just talk. This is seemingly the only way Noel can make anyone care about Oasis anymore. It works, but its still cheap.

I think noel is just pissed off because he's frustrated at his own inability to step away from the stale formula of music he's been making since they started in the 90's. while radioheads incredible creativity seems to know no bounds. if he's going to pick a fight with anyone, it's best not to choose someone who's music far surpasses his own in every way. it's like chubby brown slagging off bill hicks. embarrassing.

Oasis have never been anything other than rip-off merchants trawling the back catalogues of the Beatles and the Kinks. When their record sales slump they pick fights with mightier talents so people will talk about them and maybe remember who they are. I still listen to Blur and Radiohead but not Oasis. Damon Albarn and Thom Yorke have matured as artists but the Gallaghers are still fighting in the playground.

Noel Gallagher seems to have a habit of slagging people off who are clearly more talented than he is. Oasis are over, they had a couple of decent tunes 100 years ago but judging from their performance at the Brits they are finished. Liams voice was embarrasing even Noel looked embarrased for him.
Whatever you think of Thom Yorke he pisses all over Noel Gallagher.
Noel is obviously jealous and so he should be.

Noel is just an OK songwriter...
Oasis managed to somehow create a connection with the beatles which combined with a new, "rockier: kind of cheerful brit sound, and the perfect timing, and mother luck, helped oasis sell millions...
Radiohead are unique, way more artistic, their songs are technically more advanced and Thom is the brain of all these...
Radiohead and Oasis can only be compared as 2 extremely popular bands...But when it comes to the songwriters we are comparing Henry to Crouch... (For the british)

I'd have to agree with this first:
"Could I live without Oasis - yes
Could I live without Radiohead - ADSOLUTELY NOT
That says it all"
and then say that I saw an Oasis concert on my satellite and just about vomited at their live vocal talent. I saw Radiohead live last June in Chicago and am very much looking forward to their next studio release, as we got quite a glimpse of it in that show. Amazing talent that has no boundaries and is not going away. And yes, Thom's vocals are an aquired taste but people have obviously aquired the taste very well and he can capture the records live. I also saw an interview with Matt Pinfield and Noel and thought that if his ego got any larger his head would explode.
I do understand people that don't like Radiohead. I have many friends that don't get them. This is fine. But to make music that has so much atmosphere and mood is really something you can't compare to power pop that we've heard a million times before.

Radiohead are great, The Bends...amazing. Whoever said Definately Maybe wasn't that good was probably right. Definitely Maybe, however, was one of the best debut albums ever. Not as good as the La's...maybe, but "not that good"? Your opinions are worse than your spelling Danny-Boy. Preference aside, there is no denying the fact that Oasis debut is a monumentally important record in British rock history.

Oh God Noel. Get over yourself. The only way Noel can increase the interest in Oasis nowadays is to slag off musicians far superior to himself - his music is far too predictable. He was saying that Radiohead are just a one tirck pony with Creep but he has been playing the same songs for the past 15 years or so (just with different titles). Radiohead are immense and continue to develop as a band - Noel is probably just jealous. Thom's comment was subtle yet so true - Noel needs to learn some manners!

Radiohead vs Oasis
The're both great bands who do touch you in different ways. Radiohead is more innovative and pushes musical boundries more but Oasis definetly writes the more classic memorable tracks. Ask most music fans to name the classic radiohead songs and see what they say. Most rock music fans can't name one beside creep. They have amazing work but I think beside pushing boundries the music doesn't stick with you as well.
Again both are great bands but have different strengths. In the end thank god for both of these groups because they are some of the best around.

I tried listening to the bends and almost got a gun and ended it all.
I found myself constantly hoping that Mr. York would spit out all that saliva, and sing with a dry mouth. But Mr. Yorke didn't Acquiesce.
Now, what's this nonsense that Definitely Maybe isn't as good as The Bends. This is laughable. I feel very sorry for the fool who wrote this. Rather than having to decode a Radiohead song, i'd much rather listen to a simple Oasis song that speaks to me.
Furthermore, kids shouldn't have to listen to the nonsense that Radiohead put out. I have had to deal with many kids who can actually relate to 'Creep'. That's bloody rubbish. Kids should be listening to Live Forever and Rock n Roll Star.
I'm afraid there are more issues that need to be adressed. There are many who believe that Oasis have always sounded the same. Very incorrect. Actually, when Morning Glory came out, the magazines were saying where did the rock n roll go.
Be Here Now is the last true rock n roll album that we have ever heard and will ever hear again. I ask this to all Radiohead fans. Do you believe that Radiohead could write a huge album like Be Here Now. It may be seen as a flop, but could Mr.Yorke write a song like Stand By Me, The Girl In The Dirty Shirt, D'You Know What I Mean and Magic Pie? He definitely couldn't. Be Here Now is a testament of Oasis' invincibility. I would be very proud if i wrote a Be Here Now, because although the songs may not be as good as Morning Glory's songs, that album is a masterpiece is the true sense of the word. But to be honest, i could never expect a Radiohead fan to understand what Be Here Now really is. Words cannot articulate what Be Here Now is, but all Oasis fans who LOVE that album know what i mean.
SOTSOG is a fantastic album. it's a very big step up from their previous work. However Little James isn't a very good song. This lyric is what Oasis are about. Radiohead would never write this lyrics, and they probably couldn't.
Yes indeed, I love them.
Fun, Nice, Life, Youths, Beautiful
I'm all for it!
The Heathen Chemistry is a no holds bar rock n roll album. Another piece of work morose Radiohead fans could never understand.
Don't Believe The Truth is a suberb album. And compare it to Definitely Maybe, and you will realise that Oasis have developed into a fine rock n roll band.

I think people just say they 'like' Radiohead so they appear to be intelligent. I own the bends, it has some decent tracks and some dreadful tracks (My iron lung) and its significantly better than the most overrated album the world has ever seen in OK Computer (which i also own). My favourite Radiohead track is Paraniod Android. Thom Yorke is a dreadful singer of a distictly average band. Noel is 100% right, i want music to make me feel good, not some boring tripe from some moody git. Oh and whats wrong with selling out, why give music away for free? Stupid hippie ideas! Cant with for OASIS to hit New Zealand (if they ever return) Oasis, in my opinion, which counts here, greatest band ever.
Thom should live in a hut in Africa if he really cares about poor people and all that nonsense

There's no denying Radiohead are the better band by a long way in terms of musical genius and pushing new boundaries. But as a form of pure entertainment? Oasis have the hooks and anthems that most of the public want to hear, and that's what has made them so successful.
I listen to both bands (admittedly, these days less of Oasis and more of Radiohead) but both have their charms. These two bands are SO different, it's hard to compare. Sometimes, I want to lose myself in epic, thought-provoking music that provides something new and exciting every time - that's when I go for Radiohead. Other times, I just want to have a good time with a few classic rock and roll tunes! I don't understand how people are comparing.

thom, you gave him a really good answer
congratulations.-

Fuck Noel Gallagher, he is a piece of shit, and envys thom Yorke's geniussnes so much, he needs to start fighting. Thom Yorke placed him where he belonged with that response.
ALL HAIL RADIOHEAD

Radiohead are lightyears ahead of Oasis and every other band. Oasis stopped being relevant after morning glory. Radiohead's albums are getting better.. just compare 'In Rainbows' to 'Shock of Lightning'... it's laughable.

I think the Beatles would have been dissapointed with both of them... I like Radiohead and Oasis... I just think sometimes Radiohead tries too hard to be artsy and Oasis tries to hard to get a good radio hit... but I will never stop thinking Oasis rocks my socks off and Radiohead soothes my soul. Peace and love to you all. :)

Noel Gallagher is telling Thom Yorke how to do music? Fuck off, Noel. Let's face it, Radiohead change lives, Oasis don't change anything, literally and musically.

omg!! wtf are u saying !! shut the f***up u ignorant!! i enjoy each piece of work that thom yorke does (also radiohead), i think i could live without creep, but not without other glorious pieces that taught me so many stuff..
its clear that gallagher envies thoms talent
f***offf gallagher.. you became just one more from a bunch of poppy artists..

Radiohead=depressive, weak, incoherent & overrated music.
Oasis= great, but they live in the past.

How is Noel a working class hero? the whole idea's based on money and he (now) has shitloads of it. Nobody can make it that big without ending up in the middle.

Let's see:
Oasis' LAST great album was in '95 (Morning Glory), 14 years ago. Since then they've been going downhill, just doing the same thing over and over and over again. I can tell what's the new Oasis record going to be like without even having to listen to it. I'll admit Live Forever, Don't Look Back In Anger, etc. are great, memorable tunes, but a change from that style would be welcome after about a decade and a half.
Radiohead's FIRST great album was in '95 (The Bends), and since then they've just been getting better. OK Computer is a masterpiece, like it or not. Radiohead have been trying out new ideas with each album, changing their style and reinventing themselves. Some may not like all of their album, but I think everyone can at least appreciate the fact that they want to expand, instead of repeating themselves like Oasis.
Their latest albums: Oasis' Dig Out Your Soul is the same old stuff they could've made back in the 90s. Nothing new, but of course their diehard fans will love it, because the Gallaghers obviously utilize the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" logic, as always. Radiohead, on the other hand, have caused a small revolution when they let their fans pay whichever price they want for their last album, In Rainbows. It was definitely a bold move, and pretty much generated more press in a week than Oasis have in a year. The whole experiment was a success, not to mention that the album itself was, again, incomparable to the rest of their catalogue and different to all of their previous albums: warmer, more accessible and more "human", but still amazing nonetheless.
So, gee, I wonder which side I'll take in this.

Noel's an idiot.
I mean, look at this.
He once said Damon Albarn should catch AIDS and die.
Dumbass.

every1 says they hate noel because he pays out people more talented then he is, so u guys must think ur more talented then noel then???hahaha
also, radiohead and oasis serve different purposes and fill different holes in music,
radio head is more for the guys who want intricate experimental music with a rock base,,, plus thoms voice is really good in my opinion,
oasis on the other hand are a stadium rock band, they make anthems, which people remember and sing along too.
remember not everyone wants complicated music that makes them think all the time,, some people just want to hear some simple 3 chord rock song with the amps turned up to 10 and catchy songs to make u forget your own troubles.
so there, two great bands, for different reasons,,
now in a fight, of course noel would win,, thats not even a debate,

Thom Yorke is a pathetic creature in all honesty. He thinks he's the second coming of Morrissey albeit without the charm and wit of the latter. Noel Gallagher's songs at least tell us to make the most of our lives plus Noel's got a good singing voice, unlike the whiny pretentious wanker that is Yorke.
Of course, the whole argument is devoid of any meaning, particularly as the only ones who listen to Radiohead are the critics and die hard fans. The rest of us couldn't give a toss about how much suffering a guy with a lazy eye has.

Oasis wrote Slide Away and The Masterplan. I think this wins the battle easily
Certainly miles superior to any of the whiny incoherent pretentious shite that has been spouted from the mouth of that bog eyed miserable arrogant twat Thom Yorke.

Come on !
As one of you has said - NOT everyone wants that kind of 15 chords and 4 diff. time signatures in the same song okay????
And most of the people get hooked on to radiohead only because of their 'cracked' image and crazy qoutes and ideas (esp . thom yorke )
rather than the music itself - pah - screw you
radiohead the most important band in the world ??
only for you guys

fuckin hell ! i choose NOEL..

Radiohead rock anthems aren't memorable because they are not a rockband. They are alternative electronica and are far beyond oasis' 4 chord tactics. Listening to oasis Makes me want to be sick.

yeah i am taking Thom on this one. Noel & Liam as people are conceited assholes. Look at how they are now after all that has went down. Yes, Thom is angry but he's just who he is. He doesn't make remarks just to make them, he means them. Radiohead have way more talent than Oasis, and Thom's voice was one of the most unique to come from the 90s. Fuck Oasis, if I could get in a tussle with Liam I would.

Radiohead is very overrated and boring, Noel is a punk and so is Thom, but Noel is a bigger punk. Oasis makes better music and Thom is a little more immature for actually bothering learning and playing the notes for a song that he hates, fuck off Yorke.

Oh c'mon. You can never know what radiohead is if you havent listened any of their songs appart from creep yet, so you cant tell if they are SHITE OR NOT. you fucking dumbasses. I quite like Oasis too, and yeah, they make good music but in some sort of way, the bands that the gallaghers always criticize carry on musically and personally, Not as them, that always make the same kind of music without moving far from the safe line. No risks taken, as radiohead and (i can also say) blur.
