
The biggest musical extravaganza in Manchester’s history is taking shape. Taking place at various venues across the city from 29 June to 15 July, the Manchester International Festival will boast performances from acts as diverse as Happy Mondays, Lou Reed, Kanye West and Smokey Robinson.
The festival is split into three categories. The first, Unknown Pleasures, will showcase up and coming stars such as indie trio The Noisettes and psychedelic folkie Findlay Brown. It takes place over eight nights at the Manchester Academy, culminating in a 5,000 capacity free concert at Salford’s The Quays.
Industrial Resolution, which runs 7-8 July, will focus on electronic music. DJ sets from the likes of 2 Many DJs, Erol Alkan and Pete Tong will accompany visual arts installations, with quickfire moving images projected on a vast 40m wide screen.
Lastly, the International Music Series will feature a host of big-names, including Lou Reed, who will be playing his legendary solo album Berlin in its entirety (29 June), Motown icon Smokey Robinson (30 June), and local heroes Happy Mondays (8 July) and The Fall (1 July).
