Finest worksongs

Labour of love? Brain-melting act of insanity? Both? R.E.M. obsessive Matthew Perpetua has decided to write about every song the band have recorded throughout their 25-plus year career. As much as series of personal impressions as scholarly archive detailing the making of each track, it’s a fascinating read, already covering everything from Monster out-take Revolution to Sweetness Follows. He may however, be putting off tackling the rubbish bits of Around The Sun for a while.

We’d like to say he needs to find something better to do with his time but when he’s not wondering why nobody liked 1998’s perennially under-rated Up, Perpetua also writes excellent MP3 blog Fluxblog.

He’s started a trend too: another madman is doing the same thing with the Talking Heads back catalogue over here.

Obviously, we’ve begun to ponder our favourite R.E.M. songs. Today, they are, in no particular order:

Fall On Me

Feeling Gravity’s Pull

Welcome To The Occupation

Talk About The Passion

Be Mine

What’s yours?
