Beatles on iTunes: the countdown begins

After months of speculation it seems that the Beatles' output will end up on line sooner rather than later. In an interview with music industry bible Billboard, Sir Paul McCartney acknowledged that an agreement between Apple Corps, who manage the Beatles’ catalogue and Apple’s iTunes music service, was “virtually settled.”

This follows a legal battle between the two companies over the Apple name, which ended in February this year. Apple Inc computers retained ownership of all trademarks associated with iTunes while agreeing to license anything to do with the Beatles’ Apple Corps back to the Fab Four.

In the meantime, McCartney himself is one step ahead. Today, Parlophone records announced that his entire solo output, from 1970’s McCartney to 20005’s Chaos And Creation In The Backyard, plus everything by Wings, will be put on line “shortly”. On top of that, he also releases a brand new solo album, Memory Almost Full, next month. His first for Hear Music, the record label set up by coffee chain Starbucks, it will be available for multiple formats, including mobile phone.

  • Hard to be objective when it comes to the Fab Four, they were the best thing that happened to rock n' roll. They will never be topped!!!
