When rock stars go mental

Comments

Inspired by the humiliating footage of David Hasselhoff that surfaced recently, here are a few more examples of celebrities utterly losing their dignity...

James Brown
It's not clear what drugs the godfather of soul had ingested before this 1987 TV interview, but one thing's for certain: he'd done a lot.

Eddie Vedder
The Pearl Jam frontman is usually an avatar of stern-voiced seriousness. Strange, then, to find him bellowing a foul-mouthed version of Take Me Out To The Ballgame ("Buy me some penis and crack") before a stadium full of non-plussed baseball fans.

Courtney Love
Just watch Madonna struggling to mask her disdain as a paralytic Courtney Love hijacks her MTV awards interview. Remember: drugs are bad.

Elvis Presley
Fast forward to the spoken word bit at 1.25 where he starts garbling utter nonsense as the sweat pours down his bloated face. Heartbreaking.

  • Great stuff. Although Vedder does say peanuts and well, "crack" was consequence of him pulling away from the mic. He was hammered! Good stuff nonetheless.

  • Hey you've missed a couple of stonkers - the one where an inebriated Serge Gainsbourg tells an wide-eyed innocent (pre-Bobby and crack) Whitney Houston, "I want to f**k you" live on a French chat show.

The other fantastic example of a star wired to the moon is Grace Jones on something like Russell Harty where she starts hitting him because he has "turned his back" on her. What she failed to notice through her drug-frazzled mists was he was interviewing the next guest!! Brilliant.
