The Sundays – Can’t Be Sure

Built around singer Harriet Wheeler and guitarist David Gavurin, The Sundays emerged at the end of the ‘80s. Their debut single, released on Rough Trade, was an elegant calling card, announcing their twin strengths: Wheeler’s child-like vocals and Gavurin’s chiming fretwork. It remains their best song, although each of the band's albums, 1990s Reading, Writing And Arithmetic, 92’s Blind and 97’s Static And Silence, subsequently went gold in the US. The band has been on an indefinite break since the late ‘90s, with Wheeler and Gavurin opting to raise their family.

  • The Sundays were astounding! As anyone who ever caught them live will testify. HARRIET WHEELER has one of THE voices of the 20th Century. Right up there with Elizabeth (Cocteau Twins) Fraser. Their music is timeless and just hasn't been equalled. I miss them deeply and l-o-n-g for the day that they'll get together back in the studio. they owe it to fucking culture!! Forget Can't be sure, it's their worst track, if you're a newbie buy the albums and enter an aural world of beauty.
