Patty Griffin – Rain

Maine-born Griffin is one of America’s most under-rated singer-songwriters. Six albums in, after years of record companies not knowing whether to position her as country, folk or rock, Griffin’s quietly powerful tunes are finally getting their due. She largely has other artists to thank for that, with the likes of Solomon Burke, Emmylou Harris and the Dixie Chicks all covering her songs in recent years. For the uninitiated, Rain, from 1992’s dark, folk-tinted 1000 Kisses album, is a fine place to start.
