Lewis Taylor - Stoned Pt.1
Stoned Pt.1 is not only a lost track: its creator Lewis Taylor is a lost talent. A white Englishman whose self-titled 1996 debut channelled the spirit of Marvin Gaye, Taylor further confounded expectations by releasing two more equally astounding albums that drew on his beloved Beach Boys and the kind of easy going rock that made Fleetwood Mac huge in the ‘70s.
Although championed by Elton John, Taylor has, inevitably, proved too mercurial for record companies to know what to do with. However, this hasn’t stopped him enjoying a tiny renaissance of late. A cover of Lovelight, from Taylor’s 2005 album Stoned, was noticeably the only decent track on Robbie Willliams otherwise disastrous Rudebox. More recently, the California soul of his Lost album was finally released in the US earlier this year, to considerable critical acclaim. Commercially though, he’s still not made the slightest dent on either side of the Atlantic and internet chatter hints that he may have retired for good. A shame, as this, the title track from Stoned, suggests:
