Kate Nash – Habanera
Another Myspace success story, Kate Nash was championed by the site’s unofficial queen, Lily Allen. Like Allen she’s a songwriter whose strength lies in her side-ways worldview and individual quirks rather than anything as run of the mill as craft. She immediately stood out from the crowd, with debut single Caroline Is A Victim, which slaughtered a trendy acquaintance, followed by current chart botherer Foundations. Her stage school roots are apparent on Foundation’s engagingly peculiar b-side Habanera, full of handclaps and the sound of cutlery being thrown down stairs.
