In his old job as a backroom songwriter-for-hire, Jamie Hartman penned hits for Will Young and Emma Bunton – but don’t hold that against him. Now the gravel-voiced, London-based baldie is forging a slightly more credible career as frontman for piano-led soul crew Ben’s Brother.
Ben’s Brother’s debut album Beta Male Fairytales was a Radio 2 Album Of The Week back in May, which gives you an idea of the vibe at work: classy, well-crafted, destined to spark a thousand “Ooh, who’s this?” conversations at 30-something dinner parties.
But if the idea of a male Norah Jones – with a dash of The Fray’s sturdy classicism thrown in - doesn’t fill you with horror, current single Let Me Out could be just the ticket.
