Yes, it really happened... In 1982 James Brown was recording a variety show for US TV. Spotting Michael Jackson in the audience - resplendent in Sgt Pepper-style jacket and shades - Brown drags him onstage, yelling "Come up and say something!"

Then, just as Jackson starts improvising some lyrics, Prince hops onstage too, straps on a guitar, and starts jamming along - before taking off his shirt and busting some moves. Extraodinary. Has so much freakish talent ever been concentrated within such a small space?

Interestingly, the show was never televised, so until the advent of Youtube this footage had been witnessed by only a handful of people.

  • Yes, thank god for youtube and sites like it. Otherwise videos like this, and countless others would just be lost to time. And too many people would go through life without being able to enjoy clips like this. 3 legends of music all in one video, all on one stage. Love it.

  • It's cool to watch, but absolutely nothing musical happens at all. The band keeps groovin, and the "big name musicians" do absolutely nothing. Prince dances? And plays 2 or 3 guitar chords? Michael says I love you a few times and dances? Looks more like a Jr High dance with kids popping into the middle of as dance circle, realize they have nothing to do, and sheepishly exiting.
