Radiohead's Thom Yorke must wince with embarrassment when he looks back on this performance of early single Anyone Can Play Guitar for MTV back in 1993. Not only is it one of the band's weakest songs - can you imagine them penning a chorus as cringingly obvious as this nowadays? - but, since this was MTV's Beach House slot, they were forced to play the song while surrounded by gurning frat boys.
Add to that Yorke's regrattable, Flock Of Seagulls-style haircut, and it's easy to see why, at the song's climax - perhaps out of sheer embarrassment - the singer throws himself off the stage into the swimming pool.
Watching the footage leaves you gawping in sheer amazement: they went from this to Kid A? It is, if nothing else, a startling lesson in how a band can mature over time.

That is their weakest song... "I wanna be Jim Morrison"... god that line would make me wanna commit suicide if not for its sarcasm...

I'll admit that Thommy's hair was a bit off and his screaming a little bit un-Thommy but in my opinion, anyone who would get to see RH live is one lucky MF!
Peace & love..."Anyone Can Play Guitar"
