The Police as you've never seen them before

A new photo exhibition provides intriguing insights into the early days of The Police, including images from their very first photo shoot.

On The Beat: Early And Rare Photographs Of The Police by Lawrence Impey, runs 5-23 September in East London. It features photographs taken in 1977 on the roof of Stewart Copeland's flat in Mayfair. Along them is this picture (below) of a gawky-looking Sting - the first ever photo of him as a member of The Police.

The following pic shows Sting on stage at the Locarno Ballroom, Bristol, 12 March 1978. The Police were supporting US jazz-rockers Spirit.

This last shot shows the band backstage at the same gig. Sting is celebrating with a can of Harp lager. And who can blame him?
