Bad news for James Blunt haters: his new album All The Lost Souls is destined to be another monster seller. That’s not because of songs like 1973 - a pretty throwaway disco-lite number that recalls the more loose-limbed end of Rod Stewart’s 70s output – but because it’s full of schmaltzy ballads in the You’re Beautiful mould.
It’s precision-engineered, in other words, to appeal to the 11 million people who bought Back To Bedlam.
Those words ought to fill us with cynicism, but here at Q we’ve developed a soft spot for Blunt since hanging out with him in Ibiza last month. We won’t spoil the surprise but check out the next issue of Q (on sale 1 September) for a wildly hedonistic adventure involving Lindsay Lohan, Blunt’s private nightclub (“Where everybody’s Beautiful!”) and a bloke called Omar The Pharmacist. Evidently, the appetite for all-night clubbing hinted at in 1973 is no pose...
