Rage Against The Machine go techno!

Comments

Mr Oizo, aka French dance producer Quentin Dupleux, is best known in this country for his 1999 minimalist techno hit Flat Beat - surely one of the most bizarre tracks ever to hit Number 1.

Eight years on Mr Oizo still operates on the fringes of the dance scene, specializing in remixes of dubious legality. Most of them aren’t worth hearing, but he’s created an impressive buzz with his fuzzed-up electro version of Rage Against The Machine’s deathless rebel anthem Killing In The Name.

Already an indie-rave club mainstay, the remix is starting to infiltrate the wider world, picking up plays from Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe on Radio 1. Predictably, it’s caused outrage among rock purists, who naturally regard it as sacrilege to transform Tom Morello’s famous intro riff into a bugged-out blitz of acid techno.

Judge for yourself by listening here.
