Bat For Lashes is now 2/1 favourite to win the Mercury Music Prize tomorrow (4 September) - and the formidable buzz surrounding Natasha Khan will only be stoked further by this sensational cover of Primal Scream's Higher Than The Sun.
Recorded for DJ Colin Murray's show In The Company Of..., the track also features fellow Mercury nominees Fionn Regan and Maps mainman James Chapman - but it's Khan's sultry vocals that dominate.
Higher Than The Sun, of course, is from Primal Scream's Screamadelica, which won the inaugural Mercury prize in 1992. This version is one of those rare covers that teases new subtleties from the song, making you hear the original in a new light.
