With their eccentric headgear and dead-eyed, sardonic vocals, London-based Parisian hipsters The Teenagers look like they could have been invented as an arch in-joke by Vice magazine.
Actually, that’s not so far from the truth. The band started life in December 2005 as a Myspace hoax. It was only when their fake band profile started attracting genuine fans that the trio decided to record a proper demo, leading to a deal with Merok, who discovered Klaxons.
Louche and sex-obsessed (debut single Homecoming boasted the catchy chorus: “I fucked my American cunt”), The Teenagers’ sleek digi-punk anthems suggest what might happen if Serge Gainsbourg fronted The Horrors - although forthcoming single Starlett Johansson suggests they have an ear for a nagging tune as well as a sleazy lyric.
