We first came across Marissa Nadler thanks to her tremulous, glacier-pace cover of Radiohead’s No Surprises - but her own material is even more fragile and otherworldly.
Nadler’s live performances reveal her to be something of a woman born out of time – a demure, ethereal songbird who sounds like she belongs in Laurel Canyon circa 1969. Yet the Boston, Massachusetts-based singer is also a very modern kind of folk siren, feted by hipster music blogs such as Stereogum.com as well as the likes of Mojo magazine.
Diamond Heart Is taken from Songs III: Bird On The Water, Nadler’s first album for Peacefrog, home of Jose Gonzalez, which was released in March of this year. It’s being hosted by this blog. You can also listen to the song, as well as Nadler’s Radiohead cover, on her Myspace.
