New To Q: One Night Only

Comments

The buzz surrounding One Night Only right now centres on their breezy forthcoming single You And Me, currently a favourite of Jo Wiley and Zane Lowe on Radio 1.

However, we’d rather draw your attention to a song that we think has the potential to be a much bigger hit, Just For Tonight. Dripping with cheesy synth riffs, and hamstrung by a rather treacly lyric from singer George Craig, it’s a transparent attempt to write an 80s-tinged indie anthem in the Mr Brightside mould – but it’s delivered with such youthful gusto (none of the band has yet hit 20), it’s hard not to get swept along.

The version you hear on their Myspace is only a demo, but it’s easy to imagine how punchy and slick it’ll sound once Steve Lillywhite has finished with it. The sometime U2 producer is currently working on One Night Only’s debut album, due in early 2008. Prior to that the fivesome will be supporting fellow Yorkshiremen The Pigeon Detectives on a lengthy UK tour.
