18-year-old Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams – think of her as the emo Avril Lavigne – doesn’t like it when the media singles her out for attention. After Kerrang! magazine put her alone on their cover the church-going teetotaller took to the stage in a T-shirt with “Paramore is a BAND!” scrawled stroppily across the front.
She’ll have to get used to it, though. Armed with a steel-capped vocal howl and a neat way with an angst-ridden lyric, Williams is not only by far the most interesting thing about Paramore, she’s increasingly a hero to a generation of misunderstood teenage girls.
Paramore aren’t emo royalty yet: their second album Riot, released earlier this year, has sold 500,000 copies in America: respectable but not huge. But the Franklin, Tennessee band are clearly on an upward curve, and anthems such as Misery Business demonstrate why: slick, punchy and easy to swallow, it’s spring-loaded pop-punk at its most ruthlessly efficient.

why is the fact she is a church-going teetotaller relevant to your description?? Is it not allowed?
