Foo Fighters cover Wings!

Comments

40 top British acts have clubbed together to record off-the-wall cover versions for Radio 1 Established 1967, an album marking Radio 1’s 40th anniversary.

Some of the covers are knuckle-knawingly awful – we’re thinking of Girls Aloud’s antiseptic take on Wheatus’ Teenage Dirtbag, and The Streets’ tone-deaf mauling of Elton John’s Your Song.

It’s not all hideous though, and some of the best tracks from the album have started to circulate on the music blogs. The cover that seems to be getting the most favourable response is Foo Fighters’ razor-throated charge through Wings' Band On The Run.

Listen and judge for yourself: an MP3 of the track is being hosted by this blog.

Dave Grohl and co are past masters at reinventing ‘70s pop-rock classics. Fans will remember their excellent version of Gerry Rafferty’s Baker Street, which you’ll find here.
