When rock stars fall over...

Comments

Isn’t it brilliant when famous people fall arse over tit?

What’s interesting, though, is how far the level of hilarity is proportional to how seriously the star in questions takes him/herself. Robbie Williams, for example, has a knockabout kind of stage presence. He’s sort of a slapstick figure anyway. So when he takes a tumble it’s only mildly amusing.

Conversely, when it happens to an artist whose reputation depends on a stern projection of high seriousness – Interpol guitarist Daniel Kessler, say – it’s always outrageously entertaining. Have a look at these clips and you’ll see what we mean.

Robbie Williams
"I fell over like a twat," wails the artist formerly known as "fat dancer". To be fair, he recovers from it well.

PJ Harvey
It's difficult to maintain an aura of glowering, rock n'roll froideur when you've just fallen flat on your arse.

Jason Newsted, Metallica
Fortunately looking like a total berk onstage has never been a barrier to a career in heavy metal.

Lupe Fiasco
Even strictly teetotal rappers can lose their balance. In this case the man born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco falls clean off the stage.

Daniel Kessler, Interpol
Evidently it was dark onstage. Perhaps someone should have "turned on the bright lights." Ahem.
