Preparations for Glastonbury 2008 are already well underway, but organiser Emily Eavis has still found time to launch her own club night, Holy Cow, devoted to showcasing her favourite up-and-coming bands.
The inaugural event was held at The Social in Central London on 24 October, and featured hotly-tipped geek-rockers Vampire Weekend, alt-troubadour Alexander Wolfe, and an acoustic set from Courteeners frontman Liam Fray.
However, Eavis is keen to point out that the club night is simply a forum for great new music, and has no bearing on the line-up for Glastonbury Festival.
"It's not a PR exercise, and we're not trying to recreate Glastonbury," Eavis said. "There will be a competition for bands to enter if they want to play at the festival, which we'll be announcing soon, but Holy Cow is just a bit of fun. I'm really into new music, and this is a chance to see the best new bands from around the country in a small setting."
The date and line-up of the next event is still to be confirmed. If you're in a band and would like to be considered, visit Holy Cow on Myspace.
"I promise to listen to every band that gets in touch," Eavis said.
