Phil Campbell – No Love Songs
The son of a lay preacher, Scotland’s Phil Campbell has needed a bit of faith in his time. Although first signed back in in the ‘90s, when he was in his late teens, record deals with both Warners and EMI had both turned sour by the time he reached his early twenties. Now he’s bounced back, peddling careworn country rock with a hint of Ryan Adams in its uptempo, Stones-y shuffle and Damien Rice in its generally tortured bent. A fine singer-songwriter’s album, Joy, is out now, with a successor due next year.

Here’s the video for the track Cold Engines, released back in October.
