Any blonde Swede peddling casually brilliant electro-pop will inevitably be compared with Robyn, but there’s something subtle and enigmatic about Lykke Li that evades easy comparisons. Little Bit has an awkward, hesitant quality that recalls Feist one moment, Kylie Minogue’s more minimalist efforts the next.
There’s also a breathless intensity to Lykke Li’s lyrics that takes the song beyond the realm of throwaway pop. “I would do it, push the button, pull the trigger, jump of a cliff…” she sings, clearly not just “a little bit” in love as she tries to convince herself, but rather in the grip of an overwhelming infatuation.
The song is taken from Lykke Li’s debut three-track EP, which you can order here. She’s currently in New York working on her debut album with Bjorn Yttling, of Peter, Bjorn & John fame – expect the results to emerge in early 2008. An intriguing prospect.
