Ex-Suede guitarist Bernard Butler seems to have rediscovered his creative mojo. After a few years of fairly directionless activity (The Tears, anyone?), he’s found gainful employment as the producer of next year’s most eagerly-anticipated debut – that’ll be Duffy’s – and also helped Glaswegian indie types Sons And Daughters craft by far their most urgent and single yet, in the form of Gilt Complex.
On their last two albums Sons And Daughters tempered their rock n’roll instincts with rootsy, country-style musicianship. Under Butler’s coaching they’ve toughened up their sound and come up with a propulsive, stiletto-heeled strut of a single that’s equal parts rockabilly punch and Dick Dale/Pulp Fiction retro sass.
It’s taken from the quartet’s third album This Gift, out next month.
