Stumbling across the excellent Black Cab Sessions - in which artists such as The Kooks, Cold War Kids and The National perform live in the back of a, er, black cab – got us thinking about some other bands who’ve played gigs on the move…

Kula Shaker
The video for the retro rockers’ third single Hey Dude showed them tearing round London on the back of an open-top bus, though in retrospect it’s a pity the driver didn’t navigate a few more low bridges. Not that we’re in a position to mock: we slapped them on the cover of Q shortly afterwards (“Blimey! The World’s Most Exciting Band!” Ahem).

Vince Neil
The Motley Crue frontman is currently appearing on the cruise ship Carnival Imagination alongside erstwhile hair metal contemporaries Ratt and Slaughter (what, no Bang Tango?) off the Florida coast. The name of this desperate enterprise? What else but Motley Cruise? We look forward to the British version: pootling round Bexhill-On-Sea with Saxon and The Darkness.

The Wildhearts
The pop-metallers filmed the video for 1995 single I Wanna Go Where The People Go while rocking out on the back of a flat-bed truck as it thundered through the streets of New York. It works a lot better than video’s other set-up, which sees the band dolled up in antique finery, presumably in an attempt to resemble Regency dandies, though they actually look more like Panic At The Disco if they lived in a skip.

Jamiroquai
The stubble-chinned funk dwarf played a gig on a 757 jet plane in February 2007, ostensibly in a bid to break the record for the highest concert ever (wasn’t that Glastonbury '95?) but actually because Sony Ericsson paid him to - the whole thing was a stunt to publicise the launch of their Walkman Q950i music phone. Where’s a shoe bomber when you need one?

The White Stripes
Earlier this year Jack n Meg leapt aboard a bus in Winnipeg and ran through an impromptu acoustic set. They got a warm enough response, though we’d like to see the duo try and belt out Hotel Yorba on the 236 to Hackney Wick. They’d probably get knifed.
