Not content with firing up their best album in years with Accelerate, R.E.M. will host an Easter extravaganza at London’s ICA between 22-24 March. Festivities will climax with a special show at the Royal Albert Hall on the evening of 24 March.
Celebrating the 60th Birthday of the ICA, and supported by Q, the full list of R.E.M. events is as follows:
R.E.M. Photo Exhibition, Nash and Brandon Rooms, ICA
A collection of stunning images of the band and featuring the work of photographers Anton Corbijn, Michael Stipe, David Belisle and a host of others. Open noon – 7.30pm, Saturday – Monday. ICA admission price £3/£2 concessions.
R.E.M. Day At The ICA
Events begin at 11am and will include: An exclusive playback of the Accelerate album; the world premiere of Vincent Moon’s Six Days R.E.M. film, followed by a Q&A session with film-maker and Michael Stipe; and, beginning at 2pm, a two-hour programme of classic R.E.M. films.
R.E.M. And Friends at the Royal Albert Hall
A special one-off gig headlined by R.E.M and also featuring Robyn Hitchcock, Foals and Duke Spirit to make 60 years of the ICA. The show will be preceded by an audience Q&A with Michael Stipe. Tickets go on sale Friday 15 February at 9am and are available from Live Nation, and by telephone at 0844 576 5483. All profits will go to the ICA, a non-profit arts institute and registered charity.
Splendidly, Q4music has two pairs of tickets to give away for both the R.E.M. Day At The ICA programme of events and the band’s Royal Albert Hall show on 24 March. All you need to do to be in with a chance of experiencing more exclusive R.E.M. activity than you can shake a stick at is answer this question:
Q: At which London venue did R.E.M. play two shows billed as Bingo Hand Job in March 1991?
Email your answers (marking them R.E.M. Day Comp) – along with your name, address and a daytime telephone number – to Q@emap.com.
The closing date for entries is 18 February and no entries will be accepted after this date. Winners (selected via a prize draw from all the correct answers) will be notified by phone on or around 18 February. The judge’s decision will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into.
The ICA also have 30 pairs of tickets to give away to all of the R.E.M. events on 24 March, which will be won via a members’ lottery. The deadline for joining the ICA is Wednesday, 12 March at noon and the lottery will be called on Friday, 14 March.
Terms and conditions apply. For more on these, and full ticket and timing details for R.E.M. At The ICA, go to www.ica.org.uk
