Guillemots Record A New Track For Q

Comments

Guillemots are a frighteningly prolific band – frontman Fyfe Dangerfield claims he has 60 hours of music in the vaults – which is why decided to put their songwriting skills to the ultimate test: could they write and record an entire track from scratch, on a subject of our choosing, in just 24 hours?

We visited the band in their East London recording studio, gave them a topic – “Seabirds” – and set the stopwatch. 24 hours later, a song emerged, fully-formed and actually rather fantastic.

Based around a thudding electronic drumbeat, Seabirds is, according to Dangerfield, about “youthful idealism”, and features sounds created by such esoteric “instruments” as house-keys, scissors, a length of hoover pipe, a camera-shutter, and, best of all, a copy of Q being flicked though.

You can read the story behind the track in the new issue of Q, but the only place you can hear it is here on Q4music.com.

  • I can't reach it! The site goes blank and a ghosted message appears in the address bar reading"go to this address". Is this the joy of macs or the curse of Q?

  • yet again they hit the proverbial nail on the head. I am in Finland living a youthful dream; becoming a wilderness guide. I am worried I am out of my depth as I travel to Lapland in a week for a 9 day solo expedition into winter wilderness. I can't read a map but I'll take the guillemots with me.

  • Unfortunately the track can't be downloaded, it can only be streamed.

Derry - it's a Windows Media stream, which ought to be compatible with both PCs and Macs. If you're still having problems drop me a line at luke.lewis@emap.com and I'll try to find a solution.

  • Another brilliant song from Guillemots! Am loving the new album, Red. Cockateels, Clarion, Kriss Kross, Get Over It, Standing in the Last Star etc. - all fantastic songs. Guillemots have managed to avoid 'second album syndrome' and have put out a great album. If you haven't got it yet, go buy it. You won't regret it - you'll love it!

Fyfe, release some of those 60 hours worth of music! I'd buy it!
