Track of the day: Lykke Li

Comments

Sweden’s Lykke Li (real name Li Lykke Timotej Zachrisson) releases her debut album, Youth Novels, in the UK in June. The first single from the album is ‘I’m Good, I’m Gone’, a hypnotic, robotic number that opens a door into the singer’s strange, electro-quirky world. Even more strange is the video, which echoes the song’s off-kilter melody and is just as engaging. In fact, Lykke Li has already had a track of the day before, but the video is so good we decided we had to run it. After all, there aren’t too many videos that feature two female body builders, a couple of doppelgangers and a host of other slightly odd characters crawling and creeping around, are there?

Just 22, Lykke Li’s first footsteps into the world of music look promising. Hers is a sound that both bewilders and delights and which is full of contradictions – her voice is icy yet sultry, her songs poppy yet edgy, catchy yet also slightly unsettling. Produced by fellow Swede The album was produced by Björn Yttling of Peter, Björn and John fame, her debut album will soon be provoking involuntary dance moves in all who listen to it.
