MARTHA WAINWRIGHT – Q The Music Club Live At The Hospital Club

The family legacy is never far away. With a famous father, mother, aunt and brother, it was only a matter of time before one of them got a mention as Martha Wainwright became the latest performer at Q’s monthly show.
Faced by the hushed reverence of the crowd, the singer – freshly flown in from Oxnard, California – cracked, as the intimate event clearly reminded her of some sort of Q&A session. “Does anybody have any questions? Yes, my mom’s great thankyou,” she quipped.
With her husky voice permanently teetering on the edge of cracking into a deliciously fragile whisper, Wainwright concentrated on material from her second album I Know You’re Married But I Have Feelings Too with tracks such as I Wish I Were, Bleeding All Over You, Jesus And Mary and Comin’ Tonight.

Largely playing alone but occasionally accompanied by her husband Brad Albetta (to particularly striking effect as he played piano on Dis Quand Reviendras Tu), was on playful form, joking about the designer mini-dress she claimed she nabbed from a photoshoot: “It wasn’t free - it was stolen, and I haven’t heard anything back.”
Wainwright also dipped back into tracks from her debut, including Factory which she told the Q The Music Club Live At The Hospital Club crowd composed “on Bob Dylan’s old guitar”, and rounding off the show with Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole.
You will be able to hear highlights of the gig in the Q Sessions on the new Q Radio next month on DAB radio in London, as well as at Freeview channel 716, Virgin Media 878, Sky Digital Channel 0181.
The next Q The Music Club Live At The Hospital Club features The Feeling on July 9.

Saw the Martha gig last night... she was on top form. The support band Lazenby were pretty hot too. I hear they are doing Glastonbury and Secret Garden Festival are you doing any articles on them, would love to read more about them.

My wife and I were lucky enough to win tickets for the Martha Wainwright gig last night. It was absolutely brilliant. One of those gigs when you know you've been in the presence of someone special. Many thanks Q.
