Florence And The Machine - Kiss With A Fist
Florence Welsh is possessed of a rich, assured, and actually ever so slightly frightening voice. You may already have seen her featured in Q Magazine’s 'women in rock' special at heading a wave of promising young things. You may also have noticed she clearly has difficulties keeping her knickers undercover – and she is struggling again in the video for her first single Kiss With A Fist (and looking rather like the ginger one in Girls Aloud).
The track, a delightful slice of minimal grubby blues-rock, has a slight false start, with a Kate Nash style half-spoken kicking if off before quickly heading to a primal howl as Florence relates a tale of domestic abuse with burning beds, plate smashing and broken jaws. Camberwell-based Florence has performed with potty Pete, but don’t hold that against her too much.
