Infadels – Free Things For Poor People

Full marks to Infadels for sticking to the spirit of the song. To tie in with the release of this single, the band held a “free things for poor people” day in London this week offering free Routemaster bus trips up and down Oxford Street, and performing en route.
The track itself is really rather good. A world away from the jerky, shouty singles we have previously known; this is pure pop, taking its cue from a thumping 4/4 beat (think Doves' Pounding), with frontman Bnann singing rather than yelping. You can imagine it wafting in waves on the warm breeze as it pumps out of festival sound systems.
Free Things ... began life as a notional t-shirt slogan dreamt up by the band’s keyboard player Richie and is accompanied by a video which is a neat homage to the Coen Brothers’ O Brother, Where Art Thou? The track - which has also been added to the Q Radio playlist - is the taken from the band’s second album Universe In Reverse, out on June 23.
